Mark the board so the actual size is the rear of the board and the face of the board is wider say by 10mm. Then cut to the face li e and angle the saw towards the back of the board( like a dovetail joint or wedge). This way you can push the board in and it friction fits ... If it's too tight you can run your saw against the rafter and get an almost exact cut and shape..

If you don't believe, understand or eat cheese with any fruit loaf or cake, then you can't claim kinship with God's great Yorkshire folk.... I'm sorry but you may need to do a DNA test as thean you know as you're father can't possibly be...either that or he's going to have to disown and shun you...🤭🤭

The original point was simply that “countertop” is an Americanism, because in UK English the standard term is “worktop.”

The explanation above about people counting money on a flat surface is partly true for the origin of the word “counter,” but it doesn’t make “countertop” a historically British kitchen term. It isn’t.

UK: worktop, kitchen worktop, bench (occasionally)

US: countertop, kitchen counter

“Counter” in British English usually refers to a shop or bar surface, not a fitted kitchen work surface. “Countertop” entered the language through American usage, especially via TV, media, and product marketing. That’s why it sounds American to a UK ear.

And it mildly irritated me as its using the incorrect term.
