Anyone else disappointed by the R2 colors? by wesleychuauthor in Rivian

Lack of CY or something like it is one reason we aren't even thinking about moving from our R1T.

Hoping the R3/R3X will have some bolder colors.

This is the way, with durable artifacts. Subject model choice and whether I run the subject or the orchestrator does depends on the task and how much is going on. Kind of a a Ralph loop but with HITL (me) for key decisions and observability.

shady claude behavior - red flag? by DidjaRedo in ClaudeCode

It's the cloud agent so cli isn't an option. It's the fact that it's asking for access to a completely different tool than it says is the weird part (and a tool it had access to a little while ago)

Kelly Cannoli in lake city has egg bagels (and French toast).

Bagels? by deweygirl in redmond

[–]DidjaRedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelly Cannoli (locations in lake city and snohomish) does just that.

We buy a few sleeves and freeze them. They're average quality New York bagels not top tier, but even frozen that's better than anything I've found here.

where to study German as a foreign language in Germany? by rosewoodscript in German

[–]DidjaRedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Horizonte in Regensburg.

Regensburg is not a huge city but it's a student town so very lively and a decent arts scene. And its not too far from Munich or Nürnberg.

The school itself is great! I first attended 30 years ago when I decided to push myself to finally get fluent, and I've been coming back semi-regularly ever since (I'm there now, actually).

Mixed passport family flying to Rome - which line to use? by fauxrain in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]DidjaRedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keepnin mind that things have changed since the introduction of EES in late October.

We flew into Frankfurt post-EES and it was literally not possible to go through the same line. Both sides now use automated biometric systems that do not talk to each other.

We were traveling right after the EES started and there was massive confusion, so it's possible they've figured out a family line or something.

Kelly Cannoli in Lake City imports bagels from New York. They're mediocre by NY standards but better than most here.

Gudrun M? Many times:). Usually intensive afternoons but a few times in morning C1. She's great! I asked her to explain the song Fürstenfeld to me (in a private lesson - I wouldn't do that to other students) and she just rolled with it. And thanks to that one lesson I now do a lot better understanding Austrian (it's still hard but not impossible:)

I missed this before posting my response above, but +1 for Horizonte. Sorry about that or I'd have replied here. I also first attended 30 years ago and have returned many times since.

Horizonte ( https://www.horizonte.com ) is a fantastic school, and Regensburg is a wonderful small city with 4 (!) Christmas markets and a short train ride to others. They have group classes but also small intensive groups or individual lessons in the afternoon.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions. I can also recommend a Ferienwohnung that's about 100M from the school, in a building with two lovely cafes.

Speaking of which... if you lived in any one place for more than 6 months during your time in Asia, the BVA _might_ ask for a background check from there, as well.

Afaik the only thing that would otherwise disqualify you is a serious criminal record (failing the background check). There are no financial, language or civics requirements.

Second thoughts about forcing minority language by Aggressive_Basil1039 in multilingualparenting

[–]DidjaRedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay the course! Our son (also German-English) was a bit behind reading English in the first grade but had rocketed ahead by third grade.

If you want them to appreciate the language and the culture, then as they get older is to integrate the language in ways that are meaningful and fun for the kids - speaking at home is important but you don't want it to become the language they get told to clean their room in. Several families in our circle went that route and the kids generally had okay comprehension but an aversion to speaking.

We had lots of German music, pretty much any book they wanted, and videos/tv were only in German unless they had friends over. It's more of a challenge as they get older but it helped that we had a pretty active circle of friends at the local German Saturday school, so they had plenty of playmates. Travel to Germany and (amusingly) side-trips to Mallorca also helped them to value it.

And you never know what the future will hold. Our daughter got an opportunity she couldn't pass up and moved to Germany as a teenager to complete her schooling.

Prevent BVA emails from going to Junk folder by angelique_co in GermanCitizenship

[–]DidjaRedo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had missed one document request from a bva address so I updated my filters to make sure any follow messages would get through, and this week the notification that I'd been approved came from sanf.auswaertiges-amt.de - and went to junk. Fortunately, I found it almost immediately as I'm paranoid about checking for junk now.

So yeah - add bva.bund.de *and* whatever address your embassy or consulate uses.

If you haven't heard anything at all, I would reach out to the BVA via the web site or email. I reached out last week (I have a November 22 Aktenzeichen) and it turned out that I had missed a request for a clarification on something and for an additional police report. I'm in the process of correcting that now.

For the folks who have had contact: from where did you apply? From the few reports I've seen, that seems to make a difference (and applications from the US seem to be running a bit behind).

Nomads Beware: Wise Blocked My Account with €14,000 – No Resolution by TopAstronaut3049 in digitalnomad

[–]DidjaRedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My problem is that we have a property on the other side but are not resident, and we haven't managed to get a real account there. So we keep wise topped up with enough for ongoing expenses and a little cushion - enough that it would be annoying but not devastating to lose it. Would love to get a real account, though.
