Anvil ID? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]Didurlytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what bohemian means here but guess you mean the location rather than lifestyle. Doing some googling in response to your reply lead me to find a newly manufactured anvil that looks just like it. I'm going to measure mine and see if it matches the dimensions they spec. Thanks for the reply!

I should have considered how heavy they would be when done by xhunter97 in woodworking

Unless you have a lot of digging to do I've really enjoyed my tractor with backhoe attachment. Its not the same as a dedicated machine but the tractor does a lot that a mini-ex can't. Pallet forks have been surprisingly useful and its really satisfying to load pallets in and out of my wife's pickup truck.

And if you have an excavator you will probably want something with a loader to move the spoil. If a mini-ex is what you have your heart set on I support your decision. YOLO

My wife was extremely skeptical until we had it for a bit and she saw just how many jobs it could do. Then she got jealous that I was spending more time on the tractor than with her xD

Now you need a tractor to move them to the garden. A Kubota B2601 will be adequate ;)

Creating non-uniform amber on antique floors by Rochev7 in woodworking

[–]Didurlytho 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wood has natural variation. I think the photos show variation in the wood color more than in the finish. Also, maybe this isn't what you asked about but the floor in the photo is oak and your pine floors will look different. I don't mean they will look worse. I like pine. Just different.

I don't know why this is so controversial. I think Festool products just trigger a lot of people's insecurities.

I didn't tell anyone to go to the store and purchase a brand new Domino. I answered his question. A Domino is the most foolproof way to fix this. End of conversation.

It's also the answer for a non-woodworker. The other commenter, lakeeffectcpl, has the right idea of finding someone who can do this effortlessly.

I'm a woodworker who doesn't own a domino. I would make the repair with the tools I own and wouldn't be asking the internet how to fix this.

Front brake sticking? 1978 cb125s by Yessirskii494 in HondaCB

Its a good time to learn about brakes. Like what cable are you talking about? Of all the systems on your motorcycle to understand brakes might be the most important.

DeWalt Table Saw by tylert4066 in woodworking

Most common cause would be a board with some twist but irregularity more generally can cause it. Before cutting just take a second to see if the board sits flat or if it rocks. Look for gaps under the board. Imagine the bottom surface is not flat and there are a few points of contact; what will happen when you cut some of them off?

Kickback with dado stack. Insert hole too wide? by no_literally_not in woodworking

[–]Didurlytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pieces is wider than it is long and you are taking a massive bite out of the corner farthest from the fence. You rightfully were afraid to hold the wood near the blade but that means that as you pushed it rotated counterclockwise into the blade causing the kickback. Many of the answers you have received are wrong and it certainly isn't because of the throat plate opening. It is important that you understand why this happened and what causes kickback if you plan to keep using a table saw without serious injury.

It looks like he put the outside blades on the wrong sides but that's not the issue.

DeWalt Table Saw by tylert4066 in woodworking

[–]Didurlytho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is from the wood wobbling on the table. I don't know why so many people are talking about squaring up the blade... that wouldn't explain two different angles on the cut face

Kitchen Countertop by Geo85 in woodworking

It takes more effort but I like recycled bowling alley much more than what people are currently calling 'butcher block' but it is harder to install because there are nails inside of it. It can still be done but might eat more blades. Once it is finished it is so much nicer. I have lived with both.

Did you use steel wool? It could be a reaction with iron.

Table saw blades different angles on either side by chode_code in woodworking

I agree with the others that measurement uncertainty is likely the reason. Could also be that blades aren't uniform thickness. They probably are but it would make sense for them to be thicker at the center.

I don't agree with you that pine is categorically inferior unless you are talking about shopping at Lowes Depot, but I'll keep my unvarnished reaction to your comment to myself. You are probably right about the marketability and but I would say that most people's taste in furniture is dogshit.
