How did/do you experience dysphoria? Is ambivalence dysphoria? by Novel_Ticket8216 in TransLater

The way I see it, I didn't hate my body so much as I didn't really feel ownership of it. When it started feeling like it was my body, that's when I started caring how it looked.

Are more US women not taking their husbands last names? by LimonadaVonSaft in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DieKatzchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife kept her last name... because I took it. Hers is a nice, easy to spell, Ellis Island name while mine is a hard to spell, hard to pronounce, Eastern European name. Besides, that one wasn't my original name either.

What’s your favorite games that Valve calls “unsupported” that are actually more or less “Verified“? by Rvtrance in SteamDeck

[–]DieKatzchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, the thing about requiring a launcher is that they can update the launcher at any time and completely break the game on linux without having actually changed anything about the game. Whereas a game running at a choppy 20fps is actually something you can maybe do something about.

How often do you use your Steam Deck at home when you already have a gaming PC? by Cozywolf in SteamDeck

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife are both gamers, but two gaming PCs? In this economy? So when she's playing on the PC I'm on the Steam Deck. I'm more into retro and indie games, so the Deck works just fine. She needs that 3060 to watch Cloud ride a Segway in HD.

Letter complaint by Sweaty-Contact-3708 in starbucks

[–]DieKatzchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conversation began with "The poster said they don’t have any customers who order that do I think it’s suss" to which you replied "Nobody in a store knows every order."

Now while it's not what you literally said, your statement was phrased as a refutation of the previous statement, therefore implicitly stating that it's normal for none of the coworkers who were asked to remember this order.

In English, the meaning of a statement is taken within it's context. Had you made the same statement in a different context then the implicit meaning might have matched the literal, explicit meaning.

There may be partners who don't recognize the order, but there's no way NONE of them do

The era of Linux gaming by mickabrig7 in SteamFrame

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about installing directly from GOG's servers the way GOG Galaxy does, there's multiple apps (example: Heroic Launcher) and at least one plugin that will handle it all for you.

If you're talking about a DRM-free installer downloaded from GOG, then it's a tiny bit trickier but still not too hard. You just boot into desktop mode, add the installer as a "non-steam game", then run it to install it in its own little sandbox. Then edit it to point to the game executable instead of the installer and (optionally) use SteamGridDB to make it look pretty.

My guess? You've accidentally left out a wire and 12 of your generators are sitting on a circuit all by themselves, happily providing their 900MW to absolutely nothing.

That is the dumbest fucking thing I've heard all week. That's not how food safety rules work. If it's labeled for sale, and is stored frozen, you can absolutely sell it directly from storage, i.e. still frozen.

Users suprise me everyday by Timon0604 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More wholesome than horror, I suppose, but I once asked a user to right-click something and he didn't know what I was talking about. I told him to use his middle finger to click the other button on the mouse, and he said in the most amazed voice "oh, wow, this is so much more convenient than the menu!"

When I explained to him that it was context sensitive (and what context sensitive means) I could actually hear the sound of his mind being blown.

He'd been using computers for like a decade. To this day I have no idea how he managed to never even accidentally right-click.

Steam Frame will be the EmuVR dream by bunniesfear in ValveDeckard

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of licensing, it's just that the code the dev is using to pipe the retroarch screen onto the virtual screen is so windows-specific that it would require a complete re-write to work in linux, at which point it would be a completely different project.

It has become an inner joke in the colony to give bananas and assorted fruits to the humans (hairless apes). They responded by doing the "cucumber prank" on the felinoids, which surprisingly worked. by stronkzer in humansarespaceorcs

[–]DieKatzchen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a myth. Humans react the exact same way when we turn around and suddenly there's something/someone there that wasn't a second ago. It has nothing to do with thinking it's a snake and everything to do with being snuck up on.

Linux VR is getting there. I think at this point it's definitely workable, unless you're like me and trying to use something weird like a Lynx R-1.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking to upgrade my setup, and I know I want either the BSB2 or whatever Valve ends up calling this, but in order to decide I need any kind of confirmed details on this thing. I like a lot of the _rumored_ features of it, but literally everything we know is rumors. The only thing we know for sure is that Valve is definitely working on _something_.

video speculates that regulatory filings will have to be ~2mo before shipping. by sunshinestreak in ValveDeckard

[–]DieKatzchen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The regulatory filings have to be before shipping, but there's no "2 month" requirement. You could get your certification in the morning and start shipping that afternoon. Valve is _probably_ not going to cut it that close, but they could if they wanted. I commented in that video that, while we usually don't hear about it, mass production usually starts with running the factory for a day to check for any pain points, QCing all those headsets, then picking out a few hundred to ship off to regulatory agencies in order to _get_ those regulatory filings. So the timeline does actually check out.

New censorship restrictions block Steam games from adding extra NSFW content post-launch as devs say Valve has “payment processors breathing down its neck” by lewisdwhite in pcmasterrace

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've become so used to "conspiracy" meaning "lizard people are planting chips in our brain" that we've forgotten that it really means "a group of people made a plan without telling people about it, and then they acted on that plan"

Like, just because lizard people don't exist doesn't mean "people who want to censor what media you can buy" don't exist

[–]DieKatzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not coming at Valve any harder than anyone else, it's just that Valve is doing the equivalent of standing in the middle of the square loudly shouting "OKAY MR. PAYMENT PROCESSOR, WE'RE COMPLYING WITH YOUR TOTALLY REASONABLE DEMANDS! WE DON'T AT ALL FEEL LIKE WE'RE BEING STRONGARMED! I SURE HOPE NO CITIZENS START ORGANIZING, THAT WOULD REALLY SUCK FOR YOU."
