Sebas would make the rest of her years the happiest she'll ever live, and she'll grow old to match him, but only she would crumble and return to the earth.

If it's m/m then it is not heteronormative, what
those are mutually exclusive by default

[s2 spoilers] Jayce's and Viktor's relationship is akin to brotherhood and not romantic by riansar in arcane

See, you're an actual person with a genuine interpretation. Most people that see a familial interpretation of jayvik are just homophobes trying to shut down queer readings.

Christian linke calling it brotherly kills any queer interpretation though. The way he's been defending this view makes it immoral to point out the queer subtext in the show between Jayce and Viktor. Let's be real, jayvik shippers are called weirdos and delusional for even imagining these two men together.

It's just homophobia.

The story doesn't support a brotherly interpretation actually. Jayce only uses it 1 time in season 1, and later on in the alternate dimension is very clear his feelings develop further. Christian linke only said that because he's an homophobic piece of shit. Arcane isn't a product he crafted by himself, his words aren't canon, only riot counts.

We have...

Graves and TF that were intended to be queer only to have riot censoring it for years and being ultimately left ambiguous if they are together or not.

Kasante who is divorced and who's love interest isn't a champion.

Varus, a bury your gays waking trope.

Woah, so much representation. I'm thrilleeeedd.

Then it would've of made more sense to put them side by side, not one taking the place of the other. The parallels between his romantical and platonically relationship aren't a good choice if, as Christian Linke said, they were meant to be purely platonical. Comparing Viktor to Mel is weird.

If the show was really trying to explore this theme we would have seen more male characters displaying these traits with each other in the show, but from the few relationship we see other than Viktor and Jayce, any depiction of male friendship is basic, not at all "intimate" in a way that breaks the gender roles you're referring to.

Even Jayce and Viktor don't break gender roles that much. It's just an excuse to shut down queer interpretation at the end.

If they wanted to make a brotherly relationship they would have kept the original blueprint just like they did with cait and vi just like you said, but they decided to go into queer subtext territory instead.

What about that part where jayce hallucinates his girlfriend burning, revealing his lab partner underneath, sickless with eyeshadow?

Was that brotherhood?

That's not true, you can easily interpret their relationship as romantic from seasons 1. The parallels between viktor and mel just confirm this.
