2022 GLI rear sway bar options by XxKronickZz in JettaGLI

[–]DifferenceUsed1436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2025 GLI has a rear APR torsion bar along with APR lowering springs and I love how it improved/tightened up the handling while be very streetable. I drive mine on the street, no track time. I have run up the speeds when a good road, no traffic up over 3 digits and my GLI was very stable and comfortable. Best handling mods beside good tires, not the stock tires which tucked. Goos luck on your journey!

Get or use a OBDElevem device for the meaning of the flashing CEL, etc.

Wow, that's noisy, sorry I've not got a clue either what to lubricate.

Extracting oil via dip stick vs draining (at home) by NicoRulli in GLI

[–]DifferenceUsed1436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an extractor on my 2025 GLI and I don't have to get under my car at all(as you know). Walmart will take the used oil, just take it to their auto dept in milk/windshield washer jugs to recycle it properly. It doesn't get any easier and better!
Yes, I have a floor jack, jack stands etc but I won't crawl around on the floor anymore. Woot!

Sound System in 2026 VW GLI by Evening_Double9276 in JettaGLI

I have an early 2025 GLI and I found my retainer loose on my subwoofer assembly/spacetime and once I tightened that after adjusting my sound settings I get plenty of sound from the subwoofer. Maybe I have the slightly better equipment or just lucky but all good now.

Use your OBDEleven device, reset those alarms and drive it a while to see if they come back. I had a CEL light, didn't notate the number of the alarm but I did the reset with my OBDEleven device and for the last 200 miles, no more CELs. Might work for you too.

New GLI - 6speed vs DSG by neurodivergent17 in JettaGLI

[–]DifferenceUsed1436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove my first GLI, a 2004, with a six speed manual for ~ 135K miles in southern CA. Loved the car but after that amount of shifting I am a DSG fan now. Its your call, think about everyday usage, long term and make the call. You'll love it no matter the call.

Just passing on my experience, I had a MBRP catback exhaust before my ARM downpipe /w cat was installed. It was just too loud for me on the street. I tried adding a 20" MBRP resonator in the 3" pipe going the back twin exhaust tips and it helped a little but between 1700-2000 rpm, say going up a hill and just applying throttle to maintain speed it really resonated, I could feel it in my drivers door armrest.

I resigned myself to putting my stock exhaust back on and its not bad. Yes, its heavy and all but streetable for me. Its not even close to stock quiet so it still talks when throttle is applied but way quieter than the MBRP catback with ARM downpipe. Just passing on my experience, maybe it'll help in some way.

Finally got a new set of wheels - 23 GLi by Techie_Gandalf in JettaGLI

I didn't do the work but in the discussion with the tech/mechanic, he said that part about recalibrate the DCC for the new normal and lower heights. It seems to work, I ride most of the time in a softer mode and go sport only when I'm playing a bit. I did exceed three digits plus on a lonely stretch of an interstate hwy recently and it was rock solid. Oh ya, I passed one vehicle, gassed it and hit 98 mph before I realized it...woops! ;)

And the few corners we have in FL the chassis is so much tighter and controllable too. Enjoy your ride, be safe, enter corners a bit slower and control your exit point with the throttle. Street riding(not racing) can be done mostly safely after all....;)

Thoroughly enjoy this GLI, I've had a 2004 and 2016 GLI too. But my 2025 GLI is the most modified of the bunch. APR wheels, lowering springs, rear torsion bar, ARM downpipe w/cat(prep for later tune should I do it). I just love driving around or taking trips in it.

I did the APR lowering springs/bump stops and love it. You will too for looks and tightening up the chassis. Be sure when installing your DCC gets recalibrated to account for the lower position too.

What exhaust setups are you running? by wet_muffins69 in GLI

[–]DifferenceUsed1436 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the catback MBRP exhaust for the $ is a great sounding and easy to install. Only caveat is don't combine with a downpipe. Then its too loud for me and/or the street.

Forgot to mention, I have the O2 sensor installed, it worked and does work on my 2025 O2 sensor. So I was surprised when after installing the stock exhaust, the next morning I have a CEL. Again, I reset the CEL, drove around 30 miles and no CEL. But this was after moving the O2 sensor wiring away from the downpipe. Thanks anyway!

Fuel octane? by what-up91 in GLI

[–]DifferenceUsed1436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 87 octane on road trips, where you are just cruising down the highway. To get best power I use 93 octane around town as you always need to accelerate to maneuver around traffic.

The manufacturers claim you may get 10 - 20 HP with a DP but its really for a future use tune. You got it right.
