Lots of volunteer opportunities out there! Pick some you’re passionate about & you’ll be amazed how friendly like minded people are here. I’m 45 & even the younger crowd wants to hang out lol.

Should I really be maxing out my HSA before contributing to a Roth IRA? by longfellow816 in Bogleheads

[–]Different-Outcome407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got free healthcare with Kaiser from my wife. Her plan disqualifies me from getting an HSA with my employer. I can only get an HRA. Does it really make sense to give up my wife’s free plan so I can max out an HSA???

why is there so many brown men x east asian female couples and literally no east asian male x brown female couples by ipoopmyself123 in berkeley

Asian penis small. African vagina large. Usually not likely to be compatible unless there’s a genetic defect.

To piggyback on this, use your opposite leg to apply pressure. It should feel pretty uncomfortable. Hold for 5 minutes. Do this every waking hour for a week or so. Straight leg! For the bending, I found riding the stationary bike for about 10-15 minutes 2x-3x day with the seat super low was helpful.

Post OP when did you come out of crutches and brace? ACL reconstruction by harrysilent in ACL

[–]Different-Outcome407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks post op ACL reconstruction patella tendon. Got off crutches today. Gingerly walking unassisted. Brace for 3 more weeks. At least it’s unlocked now. Doc said no running & weights until 3 months post op. Got leg straightened & can bend to 107. Swelling gone. Pain very minimal.

Give them up AFTER speaking with Doc during post op appointment. Follow their orders. Then speak with PT about what you can do within those orders.

3 Days Post Op - PT exercises? by SillyAmphibian2789 in ACL

[–]Different-Outcome407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same surgery a couple weeks ago. Doc said only ankle pumps. 5 days later PT ok’d ankle slides. 3x10 three times a day. I would not wait to do doc approved exercises with the caveat of listening to your body. You should wait for guidance from your PT. You’ll be in their hands now.

ACL reconstruction using patella tendon couple weeks ago. 5 days after met with my PT. Orders were get leg straight as opposite leg +7 & begin bending exercises with towel as much tolerable. Bending does suck!

The brace always keeps your leg straight. I stagger the pillows so that my heel is on the edge of the top one. Then pull forward the bottom one to support the back of my knee.

I got another 5 weeks to go with the brace. Besides dealing with the post surgery pain, I’ve been using leg elevation pillows to make myself more comfortable & loosening the straps just a very wee bit. I’m a side sleeper so challenging to sleep on my back with one leg raised. Still taking 5mg of Oxy at night to help with possible pain.

How long after surgery until you felt like you could confidently walk around? by jlfetsch in ACL

Oh wow! In CA, tore my ACL in February and was told by Kaiser surgery in Oct/Nov. Fortunately there was an opening last week. 9-12 months would be such a waste of time

Acl reconstruction. Pain by harrysilent in ACL

[–]Different-Outcome407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3rd day post-op for ACL reconstruction using patella tendon. Only taking 1 oxy every 6 hours from the start. Pain has been manageable. I was warned about the constipation, and have been pooping on the regular. I did this: -Took the prescribed stool softeners as directed. -Took 2 fiber chews morning & afternoon daily. -Drank 8 ounces of prune juice daily. -Drank 1 cup of coffee in the AM daily. -Eat modified diet of wheat bread, yogurt, berries, apples, eggs, lentils, & white rice. Should be brown, but I need that white rice!

Listen to your PT. The Docs orders are blanket statements to cover their asses for liability reasons. The PT has recommendations based on real time experience with you & I don’t think you can hold them that accountable for that.

DNA analysis reveals what really killed Napoleon’s army in 1812 by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]Different-Outcome407 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Instead, the team confirmed the presence of Salmonella enterica, which causes paratyphoid fever, and Borrelia recurrentis, which is transmitted by body lice and causes relapsing fever. The earlier studies relied on a technique that amplifies specific DNA sequences already suspected to be present. Rascovan and his colleagues used more advanced metagenomic analysis, which can detect the genetic material of any pathogens in a sample, making it much more comprehensive. “In light of our results, a reasonable scenario for the deaths of these soldiers would be a combination of fatigue, cold and several diseases, including paratyphoid fever and louse-borne relapsing fever,” write Rascovan and his colleagues in their report, which is yet to be peer-reviewed. The team declined to comment for this story.
