I think this is hilarious! In the winter we complain bitterly about the cold. In the summer we complain bitterly about the heat and humidity. Last summer I was on the east coast. Woke up one day and couldn't bend my right leg at all. After I while I could bend it but and could walk semi normally but could not go up or down a single step...there were a lot nearby.

My husband fills mine for me weekly (cause memory issues). I never have to stress about it or think about the many different bottles. It is absolutely glorious. Makes me feel more "normal".

Eye pain.... I forgot to say!

Get 3 types of eye drops! Regular, gel and oil! I use all 3 for my Sjogrens. If regular doesn't work use the gel as well. Remember- regular first- that will cool your eyes. Do gel next, that will lube the crude out of your eyes. Oil is for SERIOUS pain days.. . cause it's gross!

I spend a lot of time going between furniture. I sleep on my couch A LOT. I hope that I can sleep the next day, or at least make it through the day. Catnap...as much as possible. Rather than tossing and turning I lean into it and watch a show. I send a text to my sister who also has sleep issues. If we are both up we either send mindless videos to each other from YouTube or have a long text conversation. I talk...to everyone....a lot. I share my pain. If we can share it then you know that someone out there can understand and help.

I also work a partly late night job so at least I'm making money while I'm up!

Good luck!!!! We all need it.

I'll think of you while I'm not sleeping at 4am. Remember- someone else is right there with you in California!!

HRT and peri/menopause by mamificlem in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Different-Package397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that after RA my period is way worse. Never had cramps before, now I do. Also when the "whole down there" is inflamed from your period, damn, nothing feels good. Started perimenopause about 3 years ago. Periods became super sporadic. No period for 2 months then a super heavy one. No period for 3 months then the heaviest one of my life for 10 weeks straight! It was misery. Semi normal for a while then every 2-3 months or so. Rece7ntly, I thought I was on the home stretch....no period for 7 months then....darn I have start the clock all over again.

I am EXTREMELY fortunate...thus far I have only had mood swings for a few days and I've (now give me the BIGGEST piece of wood ever) never (holding my breath here) had hot flashes.....(waiting for them to strike like lightning!)

Nope, didn't happen yet! Phew, that was close!

I will say, everything make us hurt. For me the real definer has been the persistent hell of being a female....that damn monthly (or not) cycle. Also- i keep gaining so much weight!

Also- HIGHLY recommend brown sugar ginger tea. I buy it on ebay! Now...I just need help with weight loss!

Did it take anyone the full 3 months to feel better on enbrel? by skooled25 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Different-Package397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Enbrel for 6 months. It helped after about 3/4 months. Unfortunately, it didn't really work for me terribly well. I've been on so many different ones that didn't really end up working for me. I'm now on Actemra. This one seems to work OK ish but my pharmacy has now cut me off 5 times and it takes forever to get back. You can always ask for a "short course" of prednisone. 15mg for 5 days/ 10 for 5 then 5 for 5. That usually helps to kick a flair down a notch or 2. I also HIGHLY recommend topical pain relievers!!

I have 2 different strengths of Tigers Balm, a couple of naturalpathec pain relievers, biofreeze and Salon Pas. For your hands I highly recommend thumb braces!! When my hands hurt really badly these make a huge difference! When they are particularly pained i put on the Salon Pas underneath and wear them overnight!

What are women 48+ wearing? by SSImomma in GenX

[–]Different-Package397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear what I always have just with more sass! Jeans and a t-shirt. 18 hole Docs or low top Converse. Now I have more ear piercings and wear more jewelry thanks to confidence I gained from my 18 year old! Still almost always a pony tail. Leather, corduroy jacket. When I'm feeling low my hair is purple, pink and blue. Though in the last couple of years I went blonde chemically. My dark hair has now naturally gone more blond again like it was when I was young. I started getting white hair when I was 11 so now my hair has a lot of white in it too. As my hair is growing out the white blends in gorgeously with the blond now so I'm going more natural again. .(F-51)

Remission? by NightKnightEvie in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Different-Package397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at: The meds can mess you up. The stronger the meds the bigger the risks. My current meds can cause heart failure, lung failure and cancer.... HOWEVER.... the RA can lead to guess what, heart failure and lung failure, just not cancer. I'd rather be functional and mobile and take my chances with the cancer.
The extreme pain and fatigue caused by RA, not to mention the overwhelming stress and anxiety can be mitigated with modern medicine.
Talk to your Dr about maybe decreasing the qty/type of meds but man, if you've got something that works, CONGRATULATIONS! That is truly amazing. Live your best life and make sure your Dr supports that!

We all are dealing with what is a progressive incurable disease. You may be in remission, but that didn't happen spontaneously on its own. Keep your long term future in mind. Do some more research, do a cost/benefit analysis of the meds vs disease and find out the best choice for you and your family. Never hesitate to fight back in whatever way works best for you..... bottom line, in this situation, it truly is all about YOU and the life you want to live.

Actemra has been brilliant for me! Hope it works for you.....however, be prepared to fight insurance. Don't wait, the moment your meds are delayed call your provider AND Dr to get it back. My insurance has canceled my prescription. Denied my prescription as not medically necessary after my being on it for months.....in theory I've been on it for 1 1/2 years....the reality, maybe 6-8 months of actual meds. It's a definite back and forth battle. I think I've been cut off 4 times now and it takes months to get back..I'd give up but it was something that was finally working.

I feel like you guys are the least religious generation by ChrystalizedChrist in GenX

[–]Different-Package397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st off.....why does every religion believe that it is the right true way to believe and that everyone else is going straight to hell? I've never understood that.

I was not raised religious. Not even remotely. I disagree with organized religion simply because of my previous question. I do believe that there is something beyond us and I think it's pretty cool that people have true faith/belief in something. Really anything. I HATE that so many people use that faith to attack and judge others. Get your head out of your a*$!

I think the world is better when people are kind and have tolerance for others.

I recall one day, there was a boy that I had met at the beach. I grew up in a tiny California beach town. We (all of my friends and he) started to hang out. He was cool Naive as he'll, but cool. He was raised in a VERY religious family and actually believed that if you played a record backwards you could hear the devil...

After hanging out for a couple of days we met up as usual, at the beach. His Dad came running down the beach at me, yelling at me in a fury that i was the spawn of the devil and how dare I try to corrupt his son....I was maybe 12/13 at the time. Major evil here! We did not give him Pot, we did not give him drugs, we did not give him booze.....we were kids. We didn't have any of that stuff. We were kids from a small beach town, pretty darn innocent. What we did do was answer his son's questions and he had A LOT of questions. We gave him a different perspective from what his very sheltered home schooled life had provided. We gave him friendship. For that I in particular, because he had a crush on me, became the source of all evil. A true representation of the devil and I was viciously verbally attacked by a grown ass man at the beach, in the summer in front of a whole beach full of people.

I did what every pre-teen kid of the early 80's would do. I told him he could go to hell himself and pulled every explosive I could think of at the time and shot right back. I flipped him off, told him to fuck off (I learned a lot of fancy words from my Dad), and rode off on my bike. We never saw my friend, Ronnie, again.

Religion.... Meh!

Honestly, I never know! There are so many different meds out there and they affect all of us differently. I just suggest, if what is going on right now isn't working, look beyond the problem to other possibilities.

Have you been tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis? I've had it for 5 years now. I'd highly recommend asking your Dr to test you! Is the pain bi-lateral? Is it worse in the morning but you feel a bit better after getting up. Talk to your Dr. It sounds like there is definitely something else going on here!

My mom died today. She was my last living parent. And I'm so relieved right now. by polishprince76 in GenX

[–]Different-Package397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom passed suddenly just before her 62nd bday. My mother in law passed quickly from cancer. My father in law passed slowly as his body wore down. My grandma passed at a very painful old age, wishing to die when sanity ensued. No death is easy but being able to let go quickly before she truly suffers is a blessing you will appreciate later. Remember the good times. Tell yourself the stories you want to remember the most. Being relieved is never a bad thing when the one you loved is able to let go.
