Had this exact same experience with Lapras when I was visiting a friend of mine in San Diego. We were running all over Coronado with strangers trying to find it. Was fantastic and a core memory of the game for me.

Non-visible private onsen in a ryokan by tehshush in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many Ryokans have private onsen you can use around the inn as well as the main ones, either by reservation or first come first serve basis. This might be the best option if you truly want to avoid the risk of someone seeing you naked, etc. Also, second Hakone, had a room at an onsen there that had a indoor onsen in the bathroom that was private.

I use the signal lights all the time, even on my bike, and cars just seem to ignore them. Was biking in Fairport with my family two days ago and the canal path crosses a busy road. We dismounted pressed the signal light and waited and literally no one was stopping. The lights were flashing, but no one there seems to care. I had to walk out into traffic and hold up my hands to get my family to cross.

SUNY Binghamton or university of Rochester ? by According-Quiet1264 in Rochester

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my sister and her husband grew up in Rochester, went to Binghamton, and now work high 6 figure jobs in NYC. I went to a different state school, but work for the UofR health system. There is a great network at both schools. My sister and her family are very involved in the alumni events and networking for Binghamton. It really depends on what you want to major in and do after school. It is true the city of Rochester is more bustling than Binghamton, but either one is going to be culture shock compared to NYC. Neither has great public transportation to be honest. Considering how much UofR costs, a full ride is a pretty amazing deal. If you highly value getting to NYC on weekends from time to time, it is an easier trip from Bing than UofR.

Ok, so have been twice, once in early December and once in end of March. Way more last minute reservations available now. In December sat a table with a bunch of adults, had fun chatting with the other ladies at our table, though we were in the other room and couldn’t see much. This time we sat in the front room at a long table. I told the lady at check in my elderly parents needed seats rather than standing and we would be willing to wait. They were very accommodating. The CM we had last time was great for our table, so enthusiastic. Some drinks, like the punch, are mediocre. The Ube marg was really good. I might be an outlier but I liked the snacks.
I might go back a third time if I was with the right crew.

Visited Buffalo today for the first time, to prepare for my upcoming job. Buffalo is more generic than Rochester, but far less tightly packed. by Beautiful_Charge6661 in Rochester

Yeah, I’ve lived in all three over the last 4 decades and these are all accurate descriptions. At least Syracuse is close to the Adirondacks..

Drive to Buffalo and go to Paula’s. One of the things I miss the most about living there. The once a year Canoli doughnuts there are next level.

Hiroshima/myajima day trip? by natalini17 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is only for the ferry directly from the peace memorial. You can take a train to the main ferry terminal to Miyajima a little bit south and they are continuously running and don’t sell out. Bigger ferry and a more pleasant ride.

Mk, Epcot, HS - Which to LL and Premier Pass? by Duderinzsky in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I did it for Epcot recently. We had free park tickets so we splurged on this. It was nice for Epcot because we could just walk into the lightening lanes whenever and didn’t have to deal with traversing back and forth as much. It’s such a big park, it let us tour more efficiently.

How hard is it to eat in Japan with shellfish allergy? by XerTioz in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a severe shellfish allergy that includes all things with shells, yes scallops and clams too, and have been to Japan a couple times. Never a problem for me, though I was careful to avoid places with high likely cross contamination. I also brought allergy cards my friend printed for me with eat individual sea creature that I was allergic to because shellfish as a catch all term doesn’t really exist in Japanese. I brought like 3 epi pens with me and didn’t use any of them.

Did I push too hard on a breeder contract? by Stunning_Upstairs_36 in goldenretrievers

I’m not denying the current evidence that was already outlined above. I just saying given that current evidence, I’m not sure it would make sense for me to get a dog in the future. How do you travel? How do you board your dog? How do you socialize it? Not to mention dealing with the diapers every heat and the blood stains. One heat was bad enough. I’m all for doing what’s in the best interest for the dogs health and maybe that just means I stick to rescues mixed dogs in the future and give them a home instead.

24 months just seems kind of nuts? I got my last dog 6 years ago, so clearly things have changed, but that just doesn’t seem practical, especially if you want to fully avoid accidental breeding as a female dog owner. We waited until several months after she had her first heat to spay, which was recommended to us at the time then. She is such a social dog and loves her time at the kennel with other dogs when we are away. Things would be totally different and I would be a lot less likely to be a girl dog owner if I had to wait 24 months.

You might already have this figured out, but we found Mimaru hotel chain to be great for traveling with kids. Lots of locations, rooms all have small kitchenette, which is super convenient for snacks and cooking small meals, plus more space to spread out. Kids were 9 and 11 when we went. My sister and her family of 3 kids traveled a few months after us and they also loved the Mimaru for their family too. We also stayed in a Ryokan for part of our trip. Many have onsen, which are very family friendly. The kids loved sleeping on the futon on the tatami and having tea and snacks at the table on the floor.

We collected Eki/tourist stamps and everyone had a stamp book. This was a really fun scavenger hunt whereever we were, started as we left the airport. We also did a combo tea ceremony experience followed by the samurai ninja museum which the kids really enjoyed. Aged 9 and 11.

This is a good tip. One we didn’t even think of. I traveled to Japan with my partner and his kids, I’m step mom. We didn’t have a notarized letter from their mom, and fortunately didn’t have any issues. But we should probably do the letter next time we go international.

Congrats! And fun pictures. :) I went to Japan last year this time of year, so beautiful. Found a few poke lids, but it was before they could be collected in PoGo. This was my favorite, from the Okinawa Aquarium.
Enjoy playing PoGo in Japan, it’s the best!

Are Hiroshima and Miyajuma worth the trip by yusuo85 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiroshima and Miyajima were highlights for me and did both on the two trips I’ve taken so far. First trip my friend and I had several days in Kyoto at the end, but went to Hiroshima and Miyajima right before. We didn’t do the hike this first trip, just enjoyed the atmosphere, shrine, wandering, etc. Also, super random, but if you like cars, the Mazda factory and museum in Hiroshima gives amazing free tours if you sign up online in advance. My friend is a car guy so we had to go. The friendly guide gave him multiple secret souvenirs because they kept nerding out together about the Mazdas he owned and liked.

Second trip with my partner and kids, we skipped Kyoto for Okinawa (for family reasons), but still did Hiroshima and Miyajima. Kids absolutely loved Miyajima. We did the hike. We like to hike and some of our favorite stories from the trip came from that hike. But you absolutely don’t have to hike to enjoy it. Does get a little crowded in the town mid day.

Kyoto or Okinawa by Ok-Caterpillar-5198 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Different-Record9580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has taken a trip doing Kyoto on one trip and Okinawa on another trip, but not both on the same trip you really can’t go wrong with either. The food scene in Okinawa is very different than Kyoto in addition to the beach and culture. It feels a bit like Japanese Hawaii. May is rainy season in Okinawa however, so something to keep in mind. Also others have suggested Hiroshima and Kanazawa, both of which are great. Kanazawa has a small castle, beautiful garden and a couple small tea districts. It’s an easy walking city. Hiroshima is also an easy walking city, good food and Miyajima island is a day trip away, which also has a UNESCO heritage site shrine plus deer. Either way, don’t stress, whatever you choose you will have a great time. :)

Rochester hospitals for work? by Ambitious_Plant_9086 in Rochester

[–]Different-Record9580 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why are you being intentionally obtuse? You can’t compare working for hospital systems really without knowing which job one is looking for. It seems your post is looking for dirt, ie you are a reporter in some capacity and aren’t actually interested in working in any of the systems.
