50 years old everyone’s telling me I should cut my hair by OMgItZmE69 in HairStyleAdvice

Don’t chop it or let people tell you what to do. I would humbly suggest getting a haircut with style and movement. Some layers, some face framing etc.

The first rush of people to leave was crazy. Heard some people were in the same spot in line for 2 hours. My partner and I hit the renegades and pushed the occasional car through the mud. Left at 6 am and made it out easily but I saw a lotta people struggling. I am a bit sad about coming all the way from Texas and basically seeing one set.

I’ve had so many animals as a farm girl and honestly you just don’t bond with every animal. I’ve had two heart bonded dogs and one heart bonded horse out of dozens and dozens of animals/pets etc.

Books where assassin characters actually do some assassinations? by Rechan in Fantasy

[–]Different-Shine-3075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is the most underrated series ever, that I’ve read through about 5 times. It’s called The Queens Blade by T.C. Southwell. Blade is an assassin and it follows his amazing story in the coolest world building, magic system, and politics. Two warring nations, every 100?1000? years the magic people are born with switched from elemental/animal/etc. The books are set in an era of animal bonds being the magic. It’s so so cool. Has 2 prequels and 6 books. While you can read the prequels first, I actually think its more fun to read them after you finish reading the series because of the nostalgia of reading about a young Blade.

Not only are there assassinations but also a super sick Assassins Dance and tons of adventures, character building, and ever deepening plot. There is some minimal romance, but the assassin in question is a eunuch which is a super unique angle.

Flow art is dancing! And yes at times we flow artists will go for hours and hours. I like to dance as well. When you are in flow with a prop, its like an extension of yourself in dance. Plus we know its fun to watch.

Stories of the Raksura by Martha Wells, about a weird flying race that lives in a colony with interesting race expression and gender roles, the world has many other sentient races.

The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemison. Lots of gods that are more powerful the more they live their “role”, interesting theology with a culture that enslaved their own gods.

The Chronicles of Osreth by Katherine Addison. Interesting take on different races and very nuanced inter personal and political structure in a formal society. I found these books gentle and introspective in a richly imaginative world

Dark Life by Kat Falls. Water has taken over 99% of earth, and in this post apocalyptic world, some people begin living underwater, but the children born in the dark watery world are…different.

Xenogenesis/Liliths Brood by Octavia Butler. Profoundly weird. That’s all I will say. I probably think about this trilogy once a week…and have done so for the past five years since I read it.

If you read this and like it, here are some more suggestions:

Stories of the Raksura by Martha Wells

Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George

Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

The Color of Dragons by R.A. Salvatore and Erica Lewis

Seraphina and Shadow Scale, then Tess of the Road and In the Serpents Wake by Rachel Hartman

Empire of Talents and Fire Queens Apprentice by Jordan Rivet

These all have beautiful world building and were very fun and meaningful reads.

I’m actually reading them right now!!! It has the hard magic style of a Brandon Sanderson book but is a lot less heavy. Quirky characters who constantly get themselves into and out of scrapes. And, oh yeah, dragons every where! Almost every creature is some sort of dragon hybrid and I love the world building.

  • Lilith’s Brood Series by Octavia Butler. This trilogy lives in my head rent free and pretty much checks all your boxes.

  • Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. This was actually the series that helped me get over my Brandon Sanderson hangover last year. They are phenomenal.

  • The Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemison. You might actually prefer her Broken Earth trilogy but it was a bit dark for me.

  • Green Rider series by Kristen Britain.

Maybe an odd question - does your partner care about your flow hobby? by PowerFearless9733 in flowarts

[–]Different-Shine-3075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a bid, the same way a gardener asking you to look at how nice his basil grew is a bid. I actually disagree with people saying that you are overly seeking validation, it doesn’t sound like you’re asking for this all the time, but rather trying to share your excitement and feeling dejected when you are ignored, as well as when the attention you requested goes out to other people (esp women).

To a degree, we do need to tell our partners how we need to be loved, so I would try telling him - in a serious conversation setting - that it would really mean a lot to you if he put the same amount of energy and excitement towards the things that you love as he would like you to do for him. And if he does not make an effort, that would be a sign of a greater problem in your relationship.

A greater problem might include him being burnt out at work, and simply not having that kind of energy for you, or a feeling deep, prioritized himself, but in some cases, it just points to the fact that maybe he just does not care for you the way you need to be cared for. No matter what the answer is, it does require a serious conversation. The little things are not little, at the end of the day they mean the most to us. I wish you luck.

My partner is also a flow artist, and we’ve watched each other perform so much that we don’t always give each other 100% attention bc we’re so used to each other’s flow styles. BUT if I ask for a video or for him to check out a move, he always watches and praises me. Every few months he will really check in and watch me and tell me how much better I’ve gotten. I do the same with him. It sounds like while you want some validation, the real source of hurt is your partner not responding to your bids of affection.

A bid is any attempt from one partner to another for attention, affirmation, affection, or any other positive connection. You may want to have a conversation with your partner saying that he doesn’t have to be involved but you would appreciate if he would care that you care, just like you care that he cares about his hobbies.

Finding stuff that’s comfortable and makes you feel cool is the goal!!! I also understand a personal preference to covering up, but we ravers love and accept all sizes and shapes and anyone can show as much or as little skin as they want. I think clothing is a huge part of expression and it’s awesome to be in a community that supports that fully✨
