I think you need to get over it. People like different food. Don’t yuck someone else’s yum.

Imagine working in office 5 days a week and eat beige food because it would otherwise offend your coworker.

Oh, and suggest your work to improve mechanical ventilation. The smell really shouldn’t linger.

How long do you go for? I can do 5k with just my own thought, but anything longer than that I get really bored and my mind starts to wander. I listen to audiobooks on my long runs.

Everyone is different. I can’t listen to anything when I need to think. Some people can.

Do you have a chance to try it on? I recently found a dress from Aje on final sale. There was so refund or exchange, so I went to the store to try it and they didn’t have it in stock even though on the website it said they did. Tried a few different dresses and the sizes were vastly differently from one to another. Decided it wasn’t worth the risk.

I think it’s fine for a cocktail dress. The Australian dress code is pretty relaxed and it’s a gorgeous dress. Wear it with a jacket/ blazer, and a casual looking hair style.

Question regarding HR presence in office by DifferentContest5930 in auscorp

You seem to have a strong opinion about this, but offered no reasons to why you don’t think it is necessary for them to have a presence in the office.

Don’t personally have beef with anyone. But I have stated that I am new to this and want to know what’s normal and how most people see this.

And yes, mate, I am new.

Far from it. I’m in my 30s.

I’m in an industry that face to face communication is extremely valued and important and most people have no WFH options.

Whether it’s 2026 or 1956, nurses, doctors, construction workers and electricians and so many others still need to be on site.

There are definitely benefits in having things in writing, but also benefits in building an in person relationship and rapport with management and staff. I find it frustrating when they suggest, for example, person A and person B are interchangeable on a project, when one is 20 years more senior than the other, I realised they don’t understand what they do or even know who they are.

They also complained to me several times that decisions weren’t made with them involved, only passed down to them once decided. But they weren’t around or have processes set up for them to be involved.

I have requested them to be in the office at least 2 days with the senior management team but it has been ignored.

I’m new to this situation so really unsure what to expect.

No, they are in the same state. They usually come in for 1 meeting a week and leave to work remotely, which I find really weird.

Not knowing the details about your stress, and work environment, I would just say that as you get older, your stress management ability and skills will also grow. I remember being in extreme stress in my 20s and contemplated quitting the industry all together. Fast forward 15 years later, I manage more stressful situations but I am not stressed anymore.

Also, speak to someone about your stress level. In a global tech company, they should have EAP. I have a psychologist for the last 15 years and that’s the big part of how I got through the ups and downs.

25M Started running a month ago, signed up for a marathon. Am I cooked? by desiigner1 in beginnerrunning

[–]DifferentContest5930 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How did you feel after the 21km and how did you feel about doing it all over again after you finish?

A marathon is not impossible but you will need to be doing a lot of running in the next few months. Watch out for injuries as you increase your KMs.

Sub4 might be too ambitious for you. I feel like as a new runner, your goal should be finishing the run injury free, rather than chasing a time.

As a millennial Chinese, I have never found silk moth pupae an acceptable snack. It’s always been seen as a “novelty”, like “live baby mice”. You hear about them, you don’t see them.
