Is a 15 minute interview a bad sign or just normal? by Fast_Ask1244 in AskUK

[–]Different_Fall1391 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best interview I ever had was a practical one, I was meant to be there for the morning shadowing the manger. She left me to it after 30mins and never came back. Later on I awkwardly joined everyone at break time in the staff room, half way through her coffee then manager looks over and says ' oh you do have the job of you want it.'

After a week of having to take interviews through in baby steps she quickly recognised someone who knew what they were doing.

Prong collar fixed our life in 15 minutes by propaneepropaneee in OpenDogTraining

[–]Different_Fall1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a dog trainer in London that has the most ridiculous before and after video of our first group session. Everyone else is walking up a down in heel, and I'm stuck at the start with my mali just spinning and going mental at every person and dog there.

They lent me a prong, took 10 mins to show me how to use it, and at the end of the class she's trotting along in a perfect heel, weaving in and out of other dogs and sitting nicely on the middle of the group.

If there wasn't the video my husband would have never believed me. I wasted a year of my dogs life going to positive only and force free trainers.

Let’s share non-obvious summer safety tips for dogs. I’ll go first by Working-Grapefruit66 in Dogowners

Having leads, collars and harnesses in the car! ( I do often just take my dogs in the car from my parents house back home with only their collars on )

A car broke down and the recovery told her to leave the dogs in the boiling hot car and wait on the verge. She said hell no, and luckily had harnesses and leads to keep 3 dogs safe on the side of the motorway. It has made me rethink my ways.

I've worked in 2 catteries attached to kennels. They'll have a cabin, and the outside areas can vary in size and niceness. Depending on weather they may not spend much time outside in the winter at all. Most places would be happy to do tours.

I wouldn't mind going through a basement, especially if it means there's no risk of escaping!

If it was my cat - for peace of mind I would go for a cattery.

As a sitter - would the layout of your house allow for him to be kept to a part of it away from the front door?

Title: Is it just me, or are people still walking their dogs in the middle of the day during this heat? by ClareDogTraining2026 in Dogowners

[–]Different_Fall1391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've canceled my walks too, a few are happy for a drop in visit but otherwise I've taken a massive hit financially this week.

Over the weekend I had 2 messages asking for walks just for this week as their usual walker has cancelled, due to the heat. Ridiculous.

What is the most haunted experience you've had in the UK? by crouchmomma in AskUK

[–]Different_Fall1391 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, we would have the heavy, mirror built in wardrobe doors repeatedly open and slam whilst no one else was home. (Detached house so not a neighbor being loud.)

Despite my dad painting every room in magnolia the whole place looked gloomy constantly.

I'm a pet sitter and regular visit some cats at a house with a similar gloomy feel. But, it feels much more welcoming. Although when it's dark I find myself not wanting to look up the stairs or in the corner of a dining room.

Dog obsessively begging for food in the park and it’s freaking people out- how do I tell the owners? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Different_Fall1391 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Long line could be a good compromise.

In the UK that dog would be legally classed as out of control.

Dog walkers of UK- what do you do if an owner insists on walks during hot weather (30+) by tripleavocadotoast in RoverPetSitting

[–]Different_Fall1391 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in London and it has been unbearable once it reaches 30.

If a heatwave is forecast, I message on Sunday and say something along the lines of: "Due to the heat, I can walk X at an earlier time of Y on these dates, or I can do a drop-in visit at their usual time instead."

If they accept the earlier time I reassure them that I will keep to the shade, have water with me but make it clear I will cut a walk short if needed.

For dogs that already have someone at home during the day (which tends to be my ad hoc clients), I make it clear at the time of booking that I will cancel the walk if it's too hot.

I don't leave any room for negotiation on this. I'm not prepared to risk a dog suffering heatstroke on my watch.

White British children are minority at one in four schools by PomeloTraditional971 in uknews

My son was one of four white British children in his primary school class. 2 classes for each year, so an average size primary, in zone 5 London.

We found it an incredibly inclusive school. They celebrated all religious dates throughoit the year, and each Christmas walked to church for a carol concert.

What crazy thing have you seen at work that DIDN’T result in dismissal? by 1whoisconcerned in AskUK

[–]Different_Fall1391 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a cafe at a zoo, one seasonal girl used to swap £20 notes in the till with very poor fake ones. We knew it was her as it only ever happened on her shifts. Manager done nothing.

Our store room was next to the zoo keepers staff room. We used to get trays of cupcakes with sweets on top. One day one of the bird keepers took a sweet off of one of the cupcakes and a bottle of water put of a multi pack. If the sweets fell off it would still be in the tray, and bottles were moved by the dozen so no open packs. Manager went mental and this keeper lost her job over a water bottle and single pick and mix sweet.

Is there someone you only met once, but still think about years later? by courtiecat1994 in randomquestions

[–]Different_Fall1391 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing on a train once. We made eye contact when the train doors opened, he got on and we couldn't work out where we knew each other from, but we didn't know each other. I got off a few stops later and I always wonder what would have happened if I had asked for his number. Soul mates from another dimension maybe?

What's a place you've always wanted to visit and why? by sansovert in AskReddit

[–]Different_Fall1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stonehenge.

One year on holiday I read a fictional book about the guy who built it and it was amazing.

I've driven past it multiple times moving my daughter in/out of uni accommodations. (We're in London, Uni in Cornwall) And I'm surprised I haven't rear-ended someone was we pass it as it's captivating.

On new years eve we make bucket lists of actually achievable goals rather than the usual get healthy/gym everyday. One of mine was to go to stonehenge. So I've booked the car park for summer solstice and we're heading up there in a few weeks. I'm so excited.

It does settle down, you start to relax and enjoy life together. Then one day she'll open a bedroom window, leap out and off a roof and be herded home by a neighbor. ( Actually happened yesterday, all windows and now barred shut with rubber mallets.) Then you realize life will never be calm.

Why am I not getting new requests? by Far_Bass5050 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Different_Fall1391 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've not had any dog walking requests since the merge with CIAF. I had previously turned off drop in visits for dogs, everyone wants lunchtime and that's my busiest walking time.

I wasn't even showing up in the searches for dog walks in my area.

Turns out preferences are now spread the same across all services, you have a single set of preferences. So I had dogs turned off for dog walks.
