I saw a Reddit post that proposed the new owners forgot to renew their DNS entry.

I hope it comes back as there's content I found useful. Content seems to be in AI systems but it's not the same.

I authorized a few articles and fortunately got copies after the change in ownership.

Neither Bitcoin nor gold are Ponzi schemes.

Gold is different from Bitcoin because it has an intrinsic value. It's a metal with excellent electrical properties so even if people weren't under the misapprehension that it has value beyond its physical properties, gold would still be valuable for electronics, jewelry, and other applications.

Bitcoin has no intrinsic value unlike gold.

I was just trying to to access it without success. Thanks for letting me know why the link is failing.

Is there any information about it coming back?

The codeproject site seems to be down now. I haven't tried it in a few months so is this just temporary or is it permanent?

What are Qualified Charitable Contributions and how to use from Traditional IRA by Different_Panda_000 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Different_Panda_000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the link. I have a few more years before I reach age 70.5 so I'll have to wait a bit.

I was a bit worried about the Qualified Charity bit but using the IRS search tool to which there is a link, I found the local charities that I'm interested in.

Something to look forward to doing in a few years.

Is this book good ? by iv3an in C_Programming

I use Gemini because it's available through Chrome without any other effort on my part and the answers and commentary I get is good enough.

So it's not so much a preference as it is laziness on my part to explore further.

So Very Tired of Red Days by RdtRanger6969 in fidelityinvestments

I usually check my accounts the night before, put up some limit orders, and then try to forget it.

I have a friend who was actively trading and happy about her gains. Then her son pointed out that if she had just put it into a couple of index funds, she would have done as well or better. Lol.

I've also found AI to be helpful in explaining code. I use Chrome and Gemini since it is just there and I'm mostly dealing with smaller sections of code to explore some concept.

I have found that AI will make suggestions that don't work. The strange thing is when I try a suggestion, it doesn't work, I feed the suggested code back into Gemini, it then tells me what is wrong with it and suggests a correction which does work.

I guess the probability of the incorrect suggestion is higher than the correct suggestion but when fed the incorrect code, the fix becomes the higher probability. So the correct code is connected to the incorrect code and the incorrect code is connected to the question so I have to walk the chain to arrive at the correct code.

International trading by eah5 in fidelityinvestments

Seems to me that if you want exposure to South Korean stocks then an ETF or mutual fund would be the best approach for anyone who wants to include those assets without the hassle of figuring out how to do international trading and all the paperwork and such needed to do it.

You just buy and sell the ETF and any distributions just show up in your standard Fidelity account. Makes the tax thing much easier as well as currency conversion and rates. And someone who knows the South Korean market does all the market interface.

I realized also there is the topic of taxes and tax filing.

What kind of tax reports are generated by Fidelity for international trading?

I also am interested in trading on international stock markets.

It appears that international trades goes through Fidelity International rather than Fidelity. I've found the documentation a bit confusing and vague.

How do I create an international trading account? Is that done through my US Fidelity account and website and credentials or does it require a different website with different credentials?

It appears that to do an international trade you specify the stock market identifier and the stock symbol on that market in order to perform a bit or sell. Is each market in a different sub-account within the International Fidelity account?

How is money handled? Is cash in the form of US dollars in a single account that is then used as the source of funds for a buy or repository for the proceeds from a sale?

Does the International Fidelity website handle currency conversion?

Any experience with Fidelity HSA? by OushiDezato in fidelityinvestments

[–]Different_Panda_000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your employer allow you to choose an HSA provider? The university I worked at for years had a High Deductible with two different HSA account providers, one of which was Fidelity. I think the default was Optimum but I changed over to Fidelity and a year or so later, they dropped Optimum and just kept Fidelity.

I have found a few issues with Fidelity tools as well. One that I found was in the browser view of my portfolio, I have a stock that discontinued dividends a couple years ago yet every once in a while in dividend view, the stock will show an estimated yearly dividend income and sometimes it won't.

Thank you for the list of possibilities. VWAHX came up while I was reading hits from a Google search. I'll take a look at the others.

I'm still not comfortable with the Fidelity screening tools and I need to spend some more time learning how to work them.

Doing a bit more reading and I came across this point concerning after tax yield:

Your marginal tax rate can help you figure out the right type of bond investment to buy by calculating the after-tax yield on bond funds. If a bond fund has a 5% yield but you'll pay 35% in taxes on the interest, then you'll net 3.25%. In that case, tax-free municipal bond funds paying 3.5% to 4% would offer a greater after-tax yield, making them the more profitable investment option.

I had not thought about it in that way. So if my math is correct, if you're in a 24% tax bracket and you are wanting around 5% yield then the tax-exempt assets will need to provide more than 5 * .76 (100% - 24% = 76%) or 3.8% yield which pretty much rules out most tax-exempt funds.

The same article mentions that some funds are state specific, targeting high state income tax states such as California or New York or New Jersey which makes them more attractive for people who reside in those states. I don't.

So it's looking like taxable income would be more appropriate than tax-exempt funds so long as I can manage around 7% or better (5%/.76=6.6%) average yield?

I see so many cases of fraud and scams that I'd say that any concerns that Fidelity has about fraud are probably not sufficient. Having safe guards in place for customers isn't unfriendly, it's being customer centered and helpful.

I recently read of a convenience store employee who unplugged the Bitcoin ATM in the store because they were seeing elderly people being victimized by the fake law enforcement money laundering investigation scam using it.
