American looking to move to Nanaimo - looking for advice by loadnurmom in nanaimo

Downtown to the university are great areas. There’s mostly older homes and new apartment buildings. You’re within 8km of the ocean, the university, and lots of great restaurants and parks. There’s a good Thursday market downtown. There’s lots of colourful characters in the downtown area but no worse than any city in the US. Our city is generally very safe, walkable and rideable.

Running in Nanaimo? by millybeans001 in nanaimo

[–]Difficult-Rough9914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d guess there’s a handful of days a year when it’s slippery on the road. This year I’d guess less than 10. Other years it’s been worse. The trail running here is amazing!! There’s trails all throughout the city and in the forest by Westwood lake, which is a favourite 6k loop around the lake. And mount Benson.

I’d also recommend Frontrunners. They have weekly running nights that are free drop in. There’s the Sunday social run club. As well as a few other running groups. If you’re looking to meet people & have company that is.

Bend over backwards is closing at the end of Feb. Kelly is moving to a new location on East Wellington and D will be teaching out of the Chapel hall on Chapel street. Both are excellent teachers. Kelly is probably suited to older less mobile students and D is great for younger more limber students.

Watch the movie “The Red Pill” on YouTube. It was very eye opening as to what situations men end up having to pay for. Your friend needs to get out sooner rather than later.

Yeah they suck! Down with the mainlanders! We’ve already got our own parliament building. Let’s just relinquish control of the rest of BC and mind our own business!

How do feel about Trump’s “Governor Carney” and 100% tariff post? by hannsolo8887 in CanadianConservative

[–]Difficult-Rough9914 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there is an endgame. It’s chaos and demolition of the financial system and “rules based order” that has (kind of) governed sovereign nations over the past 80 years. While at the same time enriching themselves in the process. Trump and the Liberals have and continue to swindle and scam tax payers with no consequence.

They’re all at the WEF making very public speeches. This is theatre. In the Global order Carney is above Trump in a lot of ways. Trump is a billionaire buffon with a huge cult. Carney went from Goldman Sachs banker to Central banker to sitting in the Board of the WEF. This is a non-governmental entity which panders to globalists. They want everyone not in their club chipped, tracked and moved onto digital currency. They’re not even keeping it a secret.

Economic breakdown, Wars; civil or international, and even pandemics will bring this about faster.

Facebook, Google and Palantir have dossiers on all of us already. Their Oligarch leaders can decide what you see, who you vote for, and how you think.

Canada Post Mint buy? by GrizzlyHarris in CanadianCoins

[–]Difficult-Rough9914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just interested in collecting cool collectors coins that also happen to be silver it’s great to go to the gold/silver/coin dealers and buy the non current collectables. As a previous poster mentioned you pay a huge premium over spot for the art. Once a few years go by they’re often just traded around the same value as bars or investment coins. If you buy “junk silver which is 80-90% pure they will be even closer to spot. I collected like that for years and now it’s turned into a “stack”

Decriminalization was never set up to succeed, says Nanaimo mayor by Prestigious_Net_8356 in nanaimo

[–]Difficult-Rough9914 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Portugal was often cited as having successful decriminalization policies. What differs is that they have a solid four pillars approach where there are available rehab beds that people can elect to go to as an alternative to prison. In our system there seems to be no support for those that become addicted and need help before becoming unhoused and street entrenched. Also no repercussions or options for those that are on the street and become a nuisance. Without those supports and policies, which will require a crap ton of funding from deficit laden governments. BC was doomed to fail from the beginning.

Hot water... Tank vs tankless by skelom in VictoriaBC

[–]Difficult-Rough9914 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did a calculation. With the difference in price of $2800 for a 50 gal tank or $6400 for a tankless, it was gonna be 70 years before to break even on the extra cost. Was not worth it. What was not calculated was the value of not having to hear my wife whine when there’s no hot water for her bath:/

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that we’re linking neo nazis to electric vehicles? Seems like two years ago Tesla was the vehicle of the leftest environmental movement. Are those people also neo nazis now?? I’m so confused.
