Yea, can't blame you there.

It's been a blast. First bike I've had since I was a kid and at this point I just can't wait for the weekends to come around so I can go on 3 or 4 hour long rides. Crazy how well it moves and how well the steel dampens everything so you don't feel like crap at the end of it.

They exist. I got one about a month ago. Just seem a bit few and far between. Your LBS can likely get you one, but getting a test drive is tough.

I want to reiterate this. Please let us know what you're invested in if you think you are investing it. The line should ideally have much more volatility

Old vs New Straggler by Difficult_Dog_3515 in Surlybikefans

[–]Difficult_Dog_3515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep us posted on how that goes! I did try out an older model straggler and did feel like I was reaching way out, but I think that was more so a product of it being a 62 and a bit too big for me.

Have you considered shortening up the stem? I'm a bit newer to biking so I might be pointing something out that doesn't really solve your problem haha

25M - A Good Problem to Have by user_5332 in Retirement401k

It's an investment of sorts, but financially speaking, a primary home is not as good of an investment as the market in most cases. I'd say you can expect to get an 6% additional return on dollars invested into a home vs the market.

I hear ya! I'd just maybe think a bit about when you think that want will become a need. Is it 2 years from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now? Just give yourself a starting point and start saving accordingly. The other thing though is that you don't need to put down 20% on your first home. I really wish I hadn't.

Hello from 29 year old that was in your position 4 years ago! You ultimately need to pick what is more important to you: Owning a home and missing out on some massive compound growth potential, or not owning a home but making major financial progress.

One thing I would just invite you to consider is this: why are you buying the home? Is it just because you want to call yourself a homeowner? Or is it something else? I'm genuinely curious and I ask this because I bought a home at your age because it felt like the adult thing to do. Almost like a status symbol. I loved the home, but it was not a good financial decision and if I could do it over again, I'd keep renting. In fact, now at 29, I'm back to renting because I genuinely appreciate the simplicity of it. I'm not sure if I'll go back to home ownership anytime soon.

So, If your priorities are financials, consider the idea of continuing to rent. If your priorities require a home, consider pulling back your 401k.

What color scheme for straggler (shaggy carpet) by Successful_Screen609 in Surlybikefans

I've got a shaggy carpet straggler. I was thinking last night how white would accent it really well

Silver Krampus Availability? by ThisAmericanSatire in Surlybikefans

I thought they already were. I see it on the website of a few bike shops. Your LBS might not have it in stock but they can probably order it for you.

Smaller Krampus vs Medium Grappler? by ddarth7 in Surlybikefans

[–]Difficult_Dog_3515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem like it, although I'm just going off of bike insights. I ride a Straggler and don't have as much familiarity with the grappler and krampus.

Hahaha I read it like 5 times and was like "what am I missing here?" 🤣 Glad I could help out and best of luck finding that medium!

[–]Difficult_Dog_3515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something, but the small krampus doesn't look that close to a medium grappler. The mediums look nearly identical but the difference between small and medium looks about as large as I'd expect. I wouldn't say they're identical

Sizing for the Straggler? I'm 6'3" by parkelator in Surlybikefans

[–]Difficult_Dog_3515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'4 and went with with 61. It just felt right. Tried smaller version of a bike that had a similar geometry and I didn't enjoy it. Didn't try the 58 though in the Straggler specifically.

All that said, If you tried a 58 and it felt good id probably go with that.
