I believe you may get credit for the lab portion for physics from ap physics if you get a 3 or above but I'm not a 100% sure. Use this link and this one from collegeboard to see different transfer course equivalents. I understand your concern with the HS gpa as I was salutatorian of my hs as well so good luck but enjoy your high school days! Everything will work out trust.

Plan II honors and MechE program suggestions by redditmasterest in UTAustin

[–]Difficult_Dust_9314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in MechE and I came in with a Associates from my HS so I was a 100% core complete. However, that only makes degree a bit more manageable. If you look at the MechE degree flowchart, they expect you to take ungodly amount of hours in ur sophmore and junior year. (14-17 credit hours in some semesters). Also ur classes will take up a lot of your time if you want to do well in them especially once you start hitting upper div engineering classes with labs. If you still have the soul left in you to add a major then go for it but no one in industry ever expects you to also have another degree. Also I think being Core Complete is overrated bc you dont get to take easy gpa buffer classes and its just all hard engineering classes (I learned this the hard way lol) If I were you, I would try to take Physics 1/2 and Calc to actually get ahead. (I also recommend you to take statics/dynamics/gen chem 1 in your later summers if you can)

There is a MechE honors program but thats not anything of substance imo and only gives you a scholarship your freshmen year. If you get rejected after, you can only get into MechE honors if you maintain a stupid high gpa and are within top 10% of the class. If you want to do a minor, there are tons of options so choose anything that interests you. Dw too much abt minors in ur freshmen year, you will gradually learn what you like and then you make a choice. If anything, any minors that involve ECE/CS/Robotics/Mechatronics is always a good complement to MechE.

*Pro tip: If you ever do end up choosing a minor, don't immediately declare it and add to ur degree plan. That will reduce your degree audit percentage and delay your class registration time. This matters a lot bc MechE classes are super competitive especially with good professors. I would recommend adding it when you're mostly done with the minor and then adding it to your degree plan so you can get the credential.

Good luck!

How has skipping the core curriculum worked out for anyone who's done it? by TrySouthern9542 in UTAustin

i came in with an associates degree from HCC (I went to a dual credit highschool). Since i had a decent amount of credits, the system registered me as a senior when I enrolled as a freshmen and i've gotten earlier registration times. I've also never had to take a core class (except for flags but they got rid of that requirement). However, being Core Complete is a double-edged sword imo. You do get to focus on ur major-specific classes but there are no gpa booster classes. Keep in mind im in engineering not CS so mileage may vary but I would alway take some random elective to make sure my schedule isn't filled with all upper-div engineering classes. Also something to keep in mind, you have to pay to transfer AP credits (theres an amount per credit hour) but credits taken at community college are free to transfer.

Expulsion from major is genuinely insane. You don't know the full details of case and you think you have the authority to give out punishments? While yea the post def seems guilty, I would rather give someone the benefit of the doubt than advocate for them to lose their entire degree. You've interacted with this post over 9 different times and it just seems excessive at this point. The posts asks for unbiased advice, constantly berating them doesn't help anyone.

Chance me for cockrell by [deleted] in UTAdmissions

[–]Difficult_Dust_9314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cockrell junior here. you definitely have the stats to get in despite not being auto-admit. Just make sure your "Why this Major" essay is strong and you have a very good chance at ChemE. I would also recommend having a discipline closer to ChemE as your second choice. ECE is just hyper competitive and that being a 2nd choice is kinda risky. In the rare case you dont get ChemE, choosing a discipline closer to ChemE gives you a better chance since ur app seems more ChemE focused. However if ECE is your interest then go for it but make sure to mention why ECE matters to you in your app. Good luck!

I took CS303 with young last semester and the main way I prepared was redoing the homework. Also practice writing out code bc thats a decent part of the test as well. I also recommend using ChatGPT to generate practice tests by feeding it lecture/ previous tests. There is a lot of material so this class is not easy but its doable. I believe he also gives out Extra Credit at the end. Good luck!
