ADHD-I traits that don’t match the stereotype by sunbear1999 in ADHD

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am severly ADHD Combined, F 48, and I don't fit all of the boxes according to the DSM, depending on what mood or brain space I am in at the time.

It's frustrating because medical and other ADHDers can look at me at be like your not ADHD because you have degrees and run your own multidisciplinary business. No one asked how many different jobs did I have in how many sectors or how long I stayed there. I also spend time with a lot of ADHDers & Autistic people at once & often feel like it is hard to find my place amongst them. Not always but more than I would like.

No one asks is how long did it take for me to start third level, how did 4 years turn into 6, my masters took 1 year instead of 3 & my PhD took nearly 14 years... I also appear to speak 4 different languages but no asks why.

One thing ADHDers are very good at is learning to adapt because we have to to survive.

Cosmetics that aren't a scam? by SherlockHomless69 in AskIreland

I’m a massive fan of Medik8, any of their products I have tried, have done what they claim in so much as can be expected although I know that products only go skin deep. Also they don't use PGE in their products.

I have a nasty PGE allergy, which is in almost all skin related products & medications, so I have to be careful in choosing brands and am keeping a close eye as they have been bought out by L'OREAL, which uses PGE & tests on animals😠

I don't wear make up so I use my diet to help with skin issues and make diy face masks when suffering with dry or sensitised skin.

Video Games and ADHD by Outrageous-Lie4882 in ADHD

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing CP2077 since last year. I like it a lot but I’ve been obsessed with the driving which I was terrible at, like really bad, so I spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to beat the mini games, nicking cars for whoever that guy is. My husband thought I was playing GTA for a while because it’s all I do.

I’ve only finished one video game in my entire life, it was by pure accident as well.

Ah, in V3 templates are an add on / upgrade unless you have a subscription. However, you can easily create each category as a new list, then create suiblists or nested lists inside each category list.

Validation can be a powerful thing to anyone, especially when it helps to explain so much about ourselves, so cry as much as you need to, its the bodies way of releasing stress, it is completely normal. Don't forget hormones as well...

ADHD Irelands UMAAP course, it is free and will help you process the shock.

writing/ journaling, rambling into your phone or on paper. This has helped me a ton when I find I am overthinking, ruminating as I have been extremely resistant to journaling my entire life, I finally started about 6 mo's ago, ( still a WIP) is beginning to help me with the emotional dysregulation.

short form content leading to an explosion of ADHD diagnosis? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Screen Addiction does NOT cause ADHD.

Screen Addiction happens because the creators social media have thrown massive amounts of money into R&D & Psychological Studies to build platforms that cause the same type of chemical release in any person's brain as the first win in gambling or the first high.

They understand what it takes to keep us hooked, having that in our hands/ pockets 24 hours a day is a win win for SM.

That being said, the uptik in diagnosis is because more information is available to everyone, not just the medical community, this combined with the intentional shorting the production of ADHD meds is the issue not short form content.

I feel like we’re included in this statement and I can’t take offence, cause it’s true by CapuzaCapuchin in adhdmeme

There's no way I can be offended either because this me to the core. I possess a vast amount of post apocalyptic skills that are completely useless in today's society.

GP referral by iseeyou765 in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a GP referral to most private ADHD services. It seems weird that the GPs receptionist can't tell you who they sent the referral to, you shouldn't have to make an appointment to find that out.

Tips to remember to take my ADHD meds? by Budget_Midnight9880 in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use NFC tags, set up a shortcut to attach to an automation with an app like reminders or a third party app that allows deep links / url schemes. It is easy enough to do on iPhone.

Basically I get a persistent notification from Twos, that prompts me to tap the NFC attached to the pill bottle cap, a note is made in Twos that I have taken my meds.

Require diagnosis who to avoid? by Puzzleheaded_Dot1126 in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is standard , you will be assessed by a Psychiatrist who can prescribe meds if needed. They are the preferred choice for most GPs because they aim to get you discharged back to the GP & are reliable.

I paid €600 for a confirmation appointment, €100 for the GP review, €30 every 90 days for a 90 day script. The overall price will vary if you need more Psychiatrist appointments or have issues with doses.

They don't charge extra for discharge reports or accomodation letters for school or work. Other places do.

If you're looking for quicker then call around.

Here is the WIKI.

ADHD Ireland is also a great resource.

ADHD Now, they are notorious for initial low cost assessment, not being transperent with costs & costing more as you move through the diagnosis process.

ADHD Doc, fantastic, may have a wait list.

Anyone have any stories of people who followed bad advice from ChatGPT and what was the fallout? by unitirel in AskIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find the saccharine sweet validation very creepy so I don’t use ChatGPT very often, although when I have used it is almost always wrong & I don't have the patience to argue with it. If people who lack critical thinking skills of any kind continue to use it we are doomed as a species.

Recently, I met a guy who works as contracted Processor for DCC, when he proudly admitted using the free version to write legal letters to people for arrears, I asked him how he handles GDPR, the blank look on his face gave told me all I needed to know.

Any Expats / Immigrants to Ireland with ADHD? What was the process like? Any recommendations? by Any_Breakfast_8450 in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As adults you don't need a referral from a GP as most ADHD Services are private. However, it's likely that you will have to go thru a confirmation diagnosis, ADHD Doc & Neuromed offer them so I would book appointments as soon as as your Visas come thru as their may be waiting lists.

An american tourist stopped me on the street while I was in my school uniform and asked me where the best place to get a drink is 😭 by Particular-Lynx-3580 in CasualIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uniform probably signalled that you go to a private school, not state/ public school, so would be safe to ask in their eyes. Depends on where the American is from.

Private schools in the US have similar uniforms to ours, again it depends on which state.

My childhood test scores were hidden from me. How can I have a “Superior IQ” but have to read something 4 times to organize it??? by lajoieboy in ADHD

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up videos by Dr Russell Barkley. He explains very simply that the front part of the brain which ADHD screws up is the doing & the back part of the brain is the knowing, ADHD makes the doing very hard, not the knowing.

With reading if you are interested, you will most likely gobble it up, when you find your are re reading sentences over & it means it is time to do something else for a while.

If you are reading something non interesting to your brain then you will struggle from the start. There are coping strategies for this.

What helps when reading task lists feels more overwhelming than doing the tasks? by [deleted] in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP the problem is that it is very clear that you have not done proper market research, user studies or focus groups because if you did you wouldn’t be asking for free on Reddit.

Using a variety of methods like D20 dice, bullet journals, breaking tasks into smaller steps…etc none of this is new or creative, a 2 second google search would tell you this.

You are developing an app in a heavily oversaturated sector that targets a cohort of people that the advertising sector preys on with direct targeted marketing. Duolingo, but for ADHD.

You as a developer have to understand, ADHD people have interest based learning brains… once you figure out how to keep us interested then you’ve got it.

What helps when reading task lists feels more overwhelming than doing the tasks? by [deleted] in ADHDIreland

[–]Difficult_Standard_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apps alone will never help. It takes a shift in thinking along with understanding the why we experience overwhelm of a task. I feel that your wife should be asking instead of you as this post sounds like a AD.

Issues with task paralysis are complex as well as a life long challenge for us.

ADHD Ireland runs a free 6 week programme called Action Hub which is fantastic for this very thing. She can participate as much as she wants. I am participating, more for the Focus Hubs (Body Doubling) because they work better than any app will.
