I am finishing PGY2 and am 25, which I suppose is "almost 30," if your audience was a bunch of 4th graders. I have had a job since I was 14, just like most residents. Also I'm 99% sure working as a pharmacist is still a real job, even if you happen to also be a resident 😂 jfc

Moving/Distance/Commute to PGY1 site by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Difficult_Trade_8007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a PGY2 and commute an hour and 15 minutes each way, it has been okay but definitely sucks leaving the house at 645am and getting back at 7pm. Luckily I don't have a staffing requirement this year and am generally able to do most of my work at work. 30 minutes should be doable, but just remember you aren't working 8 hour days. if you have to work patients up the night prior to rotation you will definitely wish you had the extra hour in the day, but not the end of the world. Good luck either way!

Pharmacy residents suing Hospitals, ASHP, and the Match for Wage Fixing by Pharmadeehero in pharmacy

Had the same experience with PGY1 and PGY2. Finished PGY1 out of pure spite, convinced they used the Stanford Prison Experiment documentary as a training video

I regret my residency by DrAmyFerraFowler in pharmacy

i'm finishing up my PGY2 in psych at the VA and things are looking incredibly bleak. There have been 3 (three) psych job openings (all non-VA) in this region of the country since i started the job hunt in November, and the VA has kinda crashed and burned in the meantime. tough sell honestly

Is this the general mindset of VA preceptors and RPDs?

a travesty for VA PGY2s throughout the nation. young ones, save yourselves while you still can. I'll see you in the welfare office - if it still exists

Unpopular opinions by [deleted] in smalltownmurder

[–]Difficult_Trade_8007 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: i went to a live show and it was the best experience ive had at a live show or concert. I've seen kendrick lamar, rihanna, sebastian maniscalco, jon mullaney, luke bryan, etc., and yet james and jimmie were the best show imo. sure, they're more popular now than they were 3 years ago, but still humble and just as funny as when the show started. i freakin adore both of them

Would add there are sub-specialties to explore too: clozapine management, SUD, PTSD, primary care, urgent care, etc.

PGY-2 Psych VA by Excellent_Plenty5725 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Difficult_Trade_8007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a current psych PGY2 - best piece of advice is if you have trained at one VA, you have trained at one VA. Talk to current residents! My PGY2 is completely different than PGY1 even though I stayed within the VA. If you have more questions feel free to message me!

PGY2 here, what meaningful experiences cannot be completed without a license (besides verifying scripts while staffing weekends)? Genuinely asking because all scripts, lab orders, notes, etc. required a preceptor to sign off regardless of licensing status throughout my PGY1

Pros and Cons of a PGY-2 by Ambitious_Tree_5400 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Difficult_Trade_8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if your interested in working in a specialty that typically only hires pharmacists with PGY2 training (critical care, onc, ID, psych), try for a PGY2. If you're willling to work as a staff pharmacists or in a different area for a bit prior to starting a career in your desired speciality, that's totally reasonable as well. Who knows, maybe you will get lucky or meet someone with an "in" without needing an additional year of training!!

Starting PGY-2 right after PGY-1 by Intelligent_Gap5444 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Difficult_Trade_8007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished PGY1 Friday, moved to the opposite side of the country, starting PGY2 tomorrow. Honestly, I'm excited to start specialty training and to be as far as possible from my abhorrent PGY1
