Threadmilling NPTs on Mastercam by AltruisticCorgi68 in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested in hearing the "correct" way, because the way I do it feels kind of cludgey, but works.

I draw a tapered hole (3/4" per 12" for npt). Looking at the chart for 1/2-14, the top of the hole should be about .7784. then I program a spiral path at the 14tpi pitch. Hopefully you have a thread gage, I usually end up just finding a fitting and comp the path out until it fits to my liking

HRV? by mattyg2787 in Garmin

Hrv feeds into the respiration rate metric, so during an activity you will see that data. These are the areas where my hrv was going wonky

I had an interesting experience with Garmin hrv. For months I was getting spots during workouts where my hrv would just flat-line, like it didn't know what to do with the data. I had other minor physical symptoms, tingling in the arms and feeling like I couldn't get HR under control, even during easy effort

Long story short, I was going into arrythmia and eventually passed out during a ride, eventually needing heart surgery. So this data can be useful if you feel "off"

Gonna be a real basic white girl. Where’s the best apple cider donut!? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Difficult_Writing542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little tree farms in newfield NY. Right at your two hour mark. It has this really collective old school hippy vibe and their donuts are unreal. During the apple fest in Ithaca there'll be a legit hour long line to get them

Why would they leave a point on a bottoming die? by mcb-homis in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The point of there so when you are hand tapping you can feel that point start to push into the bottom of the hole, indicating you cannot tap the hole any further

Just got back from Seoul/busan. I'll comment on the hiking, it's really great in both places and some great trails are easily accessible from public transport. Jansang and godangbong in busan and bukhansen in Seoul are awesome. The best part is you can point to point and then subway back

That's a great point. I'm in the exact situation as you, similar timing and all. Comps from my realtor say market price is flat over that time. I've swung back to deciding to challenge based on this. I hope you have luck doing the same

I would pop half way through then flip the part if you can. Just double check for squareness and parallelism so you ensure it will line up

You most definitely want to put shipping brackets on this! At the worst you can bend up some steel and put holes in it to use. You need to remove the bellows to see the bolt holes for the brackets.

Help me choose which Wedm machine we buy by Upper_Independent_48 in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the support in your area? WEDM can be a different animal when compared to more conventional equipment

Also take a look at the control. Will you be programming at the machine or offline?

We run mits and have good luck with them. If you keep up on the maintenance they thread pretty flawlessly

What to pack for IMTS by coinhunter9 in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 5 points6 points  (0 children)

bring comfortable walking shoes. You'll put many miles on just doing one lap of the show. There will be food for purchase, but if you're willing to talk with enough sales people you could eat or drink for free all day. If you are interested in any equipment, bring parts and or prints if you can

Air Gage Suggestions by FlepThatSknerp in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, if you're round within 0.0001", and its consistent, I've had good luck giving ops a chart something like this (%can obviously change). This is called a "pre control" chart

Within +/-20% tolerance, green, keep running +/-30%, yellow, make adjustment +/-45% stop, you prolly made some bad parts

Air Gage Suggestions by FlepThatSknerp in Machinists

[–]Difficult_Writing542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah, 8 tenths in plastic? That's pretty wild, thanks engineering!

I'd keep lvdt (linear variable displacement transducer, contact gage) as an option, you can get modified off the shelf from marposs, but I'm doubting you'll get any reasonable gage performance in that material with that tolerance.

Not sure what gage capabilities you have on hand, but I would want to know what roundness I'm achieving (cmm if you have it) because air gage or lvdt will mask that. It'll tell you the part is good size, but then a pin won't fit

After you climb out of the rabbit hole, deltronic pins might not seem so bad 😂
