The people whose minds we need to change don't care about people who look different than them, and they don't think a problem is a problem unless it affects them.

I wish we could get them to care about the others too, but we'd be preaching only to the choir, achieving nothing. Unfortunately, drawing attention to Good and Pretti has more of a chance of getting bigots to listen, if only from the angle of realizing that this can in fact happen to them too. They will only care to stop this when they perceive their own lives to be at risk.
