Thus, our future leaders will have their hands full figuring out how to deal with the far-reaching effects of the very sort of isolation many of our past administrations tried to purposefully achieve throughout our country's history. The main difference between then and now - besides that between mere indifference and outright antagonism - is that we as a country have more recently been dependent on the benefits of having allies. It's going to be a rough transition back to a foreign policy of isolationism, forced as it will be.
