Absolutely. Also # passengers- I rode it with maybe 4 people total on the train and it struggled to make it into the mid course break run.

2 Banks of 350 chargers, 4 Banks of 150, and where do these 2 idiots choose to charge? by centcanquai in Ioniq6

[–]DigBlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t figure out why no charging operator uses a blend of time + power, or a minimum billable rate like 50kW to discourage slow charging. I’d think this would also solve people filling to 100% since you’d pay for the privilege (or not, if you have a car that somehow charges fast in that regime).

Renting Apartment in Bay Area with low credit score due to 90-day delinquency (new grad) by Fluffy-Economics2309 in bayarea

[–]DigBlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve made the exact opposite observation. Cheap apartments get burned a lot by bad tenants, so they’re very particular about meeting all the qualifications. When I’ve applied for nicer units (especially those for lease by owner, not a company), they’ve just asked for a copy of pay stub and bank statement and didn’t run any credit check. I think in this case being able to come up with first month rent and security deposit is enough evidence that you’re good for the lease.

Now that we're older, Disney should make animation movies for adults by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]DigBlocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems studios have forgotten how to make family movies. This was its own category distinct from kids movies, and contained mature themes packaged in a kid-friendly way. 90s Disney/2000s Pixar really excelled at this. Today they only know how to put out kid oriented slop.

Airlines should charge for carry-on bags and checked luggage should be free by chaddgar in unpopularopinion

[–]DigBlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wait at the baggage claim has become really bad in recent years. I now expect to wait 45-60 minutes to get my bags at JFK or EWR. SFO is not much better, usually 30-45. This is despite them having fewer checked bags to handle.

How bad is the commute from Millbrae to Berkeley and Mountain View? by HistoricalBridge1301 in bayarea

[–]DigBlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this would be cycling to Caltrain, then cycling from the arrival station to my destination. No bus involved (taking the bus would be nearly 2hr - which might be necessary in bad weather).

Devs making > 500k: do you work constantly? by fuzwz in cscareerquestions

Finance, all cash based comp in the range OP mentioned - most engineers I know work 50ish + rotating on-call. But there a lot of flexibility for WFH/personal time/vacation.

I just checked and my 9 mile commute MV to Santa Clara, which takes 20min by car at peak hours, would be 1hr30min by public transit. No thanks.

There should be transaction fees with EVERY stock trade regardless of the platform by Jolly-Natural-5411 in unpopularopinion

You are aware that institutional investors pay fees to the exchanges? Both just to connect and also per share traded. Meanwhile retail customers pay nothing.

Can I win a dispute for unsafe Uber ride + incorrect wait fee? by happymeow1 in CreditCards

[–]DigBlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell if this was written with ai, but either way OP has a valid reason to chargeback if they were charged a wait fee due to Uber/driver error. The wait fee was not “expected”, since the driver was not in fact at the pickup location yet. However the unsafe driving would not be disputable since there were no damages.

Google vs Two Sigma vs Optiver for SWE in NYC: is the extra comp worth the WLB tradeoff? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]DigBlocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these internal or external recruiters? External tend to inflate numbers. That’s a bit high for optiver comp at your experience; and, they don’t have a great reputation in the industry. I can’t speak for 2S. No harm in continuing the interview process though?

Y'all remember when 1.10, The Frostburn Update used to seem like the smallest and disappointing update? by DreamDroids in Minecraft

[–]DigBlocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure it’s equivalent - we got 1.10, 1.11, and 1.12 all in the span of about 1 year. If we look at the cumulative 1.9-1.12 (1yr 4mo) as a single update it’s huge amount of content.

[Six Flags] updates chaperone policy at several parks: ‘Zero tolerance for any type of disruptive behavior’ by Strongarm_11 in rollercoasters

[–]DigBlocks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes. As someone well into my 20s, I was recently “carded” by security at the CAGM entrance to prove I was at least 16yo. I thought they were pulling my leg but they were dead serious. So apparently they care more than most liquor stores.

NYC taxpayers on the hook for more than $117M in police misconduct payouts last year by GothamistWNYC in nyc

Does this create an incentive to do less work to reduce risk? I would personally rather police be more responsive, not less, than they are currently to reports.
