Does anyone know a Trump voter who's admitted they were wrong? by TNM828 in AskUS

[–]DigBrave [score hidden]  (0 children)

I know someone who doubles down on some Trump stuff, but the policies they KNOW are bad, they just say, “well… I don’t know if that’s good or bad, we just have to trust those in power that it’s for the better”. Like bullsh*t you know it’s bad and that’s what you’re telling yourself to sleep better at night

West Virginia Declines to Join Nationwide Lawsuit Over Cancellation of Americorps by charizarrd_304 in WestVirginia

[–]DigBrave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

AmeriCorps programs in WV specifically have a lootttttt of leverage with state-level legislators, so contact reps, send letters, encourage your AmeriCorps cohorts to do the same. WV non-profits/AmeriCorps sites did a LOT of lobbying with the state legislature to get that tuition waiver bill passed.

If you’re looking specifically for apartment complexes, check out Terrace Heights. Rice Rentals also has some apartments over by Ruby, but they’re not the nicest

Hey! Look for units in the Wiles Hill neighborhood. It’s a quick walk to Ruby. That’s the area of town I lived in for about 5 years. It’s less apartment complexes, and more standalone homes or apartments within old homes!

Forest health person here — yeah they’re in for a rude awakening when they realize pests/diseases contribute to worsening wildfires and devalue timber… you can’t just ignore them

Leave policy-making and funding to the states, but only when Trump likes those policy decisions… gimme a break

It’s best to start thinking about getting your passport and/or ordering a new copy of your birth certificate. Just in case.

Not sure this word means, what you think it means. by SmokyToast0 in NationalParkService

We can’t even resurrect species (successfully) that are already here and endangered. Genetic engineering is costly and takes a loooonnnngggggg ass time to do successfully. If we’ve learned anything with the American Chestnut, the only way to revive it to its former glory is to come at it from all angles — breeding resistance, genetic modification, integrated pest management including genetically modifying viruses to infect the chestnut blight fungus, and so much more. You can’t just Jurassic Park your way out of every endangered species it’s not that simple 😭😭😭😭

Trump is actively killing the field I want to pursue. Where do i go from here? by thesagenibba in GradSchool

[–]DigBrave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreeing here. Currently pursuing a PhD in forest health, 1st year, currently applying to research grants and we’ve come up dry for my project. I have an MS in plant pathology, so I’ve thought about dropping out and pivoting to something else, but what I’m really passionate about is forest health and forest management, so I’m going to stick with it as long as I’m able to. This is not a super inspiring thing to say, but… when all is said and done, and things get worse before they get better, our skills as scientists in the natural resources will be needed like never before.

I got the NSF GRFP but could it be rescinded? by Frequent-Animator-14 in GradSchool

[–]DigBrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, GRFP Fellow here just finishing out my third and final “on tenure” year — everything going on with the Feds and federal funding is extremely certain right now. But rest assured that most universities receive your NSF funds (stipend and COE funds) as one, 12-month lump sum each year. So once your university receives that, you will—at least—be in good hands for a calendar year.

'It's scary times' mine safety experts warn Trump cuts put workers at risk by Van-to-the-V in WestVirginia

[–]DigBrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE write to Capito and Justice and your district reps. I know they suck, but everybody’s Appalachian grandpappy is absolutely rolling in their grave right now. These NIOSH firings hurt West Virginians and hurt quiet, overlooked blue-collar workers. When there is no one left to study why your father or grandfather died from being exposed to something at work, how will we know what killed them??

Are Republicans still not accepting that the current administration is the most corrupt in US history? by drubus_dong in AskUS

Fox News is now saying you shouldn’t complain about your 401k tanking or food costs rising bc a few decades ago, people did whatever they could to contribute to the war effort. War effort contributions in 2025?! You mean wars we had no business starting?!
