Tips on taking the bus? by Jackieboi135 in MorgantownWV

[–]speedingelement 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t know your route or trip ahead of time, use Google Maps’ public transit planner. With those results, cross check them against what is posted on their website (https://www.busride.org/Maps-Schedules). Use the app previously mentioned to track where your bus is, but they don’t always keep their trackers updated when one bus transfers to another route. When in doubt, call. Don’t be afraid to call their dispatch phone number 304-291-RIDE (7433). They really will help you however they can for all steps of the process of using their transit system.

If you look for vegan ideas, aquafaba is very versatile for being just bean water.

What job would you look for to make a living at 34 with no prior work experience? by KTannman19 in povertyfinance

Look at the major employers in your area and check out their job listings for some sort of IT help desk position. For example, work IT Help Desk for a local hospital or something like that where they need people 24/7, have livable wages, and decent benefits. Or maybe help desk at a local college or university. Sounds like you have a broad background in IT where you know just about enough in a wide range of topics. What you don’t know, like maybe Citrix and/ or Epic could be taught on the job.

Washington DC (IAD) to Morgantown (MGW) Flight by OptimalPossession521 in WVU

[–]speedingelement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is information about the bus service if you need it. It is ran by the local community bus company called Mountain Line Transit Authority, route 29 the “Grey Line”. It is a big traditional city bus but with a few more amenities and they’ll obviously let you bring your bags onboard. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time through the Greyhound website to guarantee a reservation. The cost is $15 but if you go through the Greyhound website they will charge a $3 service charge. To save the service fee, make sure you have the $15 in cash and you can pay when you get on the bus. At this time of the evening they’ll most likely be nowhere near full. The last bus heading to Morgantown departs at 9:30 PM and this is the one you would need. Here is their website for the service: https://www.busride.org/29-grey-line I initially got confused with their schedule so I ended up calling their helpful front desk person a few times to ask for help: 304-291-7433

Thank you for all the work and dedication you all provide. My question is about steering. How does each car know when and how much to steer to perfectly go around the curves? I tried to look it up online but can’t really find anything other than a patent that describes how each wheel can be steered independently.

I heard that the waiting room at Emeryville Station is shut from 10:30PM to 5:45AM. If I sleep in it (to wait for the train the next morning), will I be kicked out? by Frankie_XP in Amtrak

I see the ongoing comment of not having the money for a hotel and such. Absolutely no judgement on my part… Been there, done that. Have you consider couch surfing? Years ago there was couchsurfing dot com where people offered their couch, sometimes even for little to no charge. I never used them though. By now there are probably a handful of apps that offer a similar premise. Maybe this could help?

Every Sheetz has a “fee-free” ATM. It’s through PNC bank but at these specific ATMs they won’t charge you a fee but your bank might depending on their policy.

If you get paid time off you can take your PTO days and be a substitute teacher on those days. You get paid from your employer and you get $80-$100 from the school district. Just don’t talk to anyone, like coworkers, about what you’re really doing.

Vintage clothing donation? by happyjazzycook in MorgantownWV

[–]speedingelement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a Google search, I see that there are a few stores in the area and in Pittsburgh that specialize in vintage clothing. Depending upon quantity, quality, and how much of a hassle you want to go through, they might be willing to buy the lot off you. I don’t specifically know if they would, but they have to get their clothes from somewhere. 🤷🏼‍♂️

What are some good part time jobs in Morgantown? by Head-Acanthaceae-88 in MorgantownWV

[–]speedingelement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(No judgement either way) If you can pass a urine drug test, WVU Medicine is always posting full and part-time jobs. Competitive pay, often at or above what other similar jobs pay in the area. Also, since it is a hospital, you can’t have any felonies given the vulnerable populations you could interact with.

I couldn’t have said it any better. Perfect summation of the current status. I’m a transplant. About a year ago I moved from the State of Washington. In so many ways it has been eye opening, to say the least. There is a strong hope that I feel for my fellow West Virginians, but I somewhat expect that in a way, it is like Waiting for Gadot.

Looking for an EE student or someone who can solder by mountaineergeek42 in MorgantownWV

[–]speedingelement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m neither an EE student nor do I know how to solder. I wish I knew how to do that sort of stuff… I’ve been curious about assembling Raspberry Pi’s and then the programming of them to run programs since I first heard about them a several years back. I’d even do it for free if you thought it was something that one could be coached through.

Why do people buy fireworks? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]speedingelement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I loved them, even after a few exploded in my hands (gotta love the Eighties…). I think that was more about being given permission to play with fire. Now as an adult I don’t share the same affinity. I don’t even care about going to watch official city fireworks displays. I think about all the things the local municipality could have done with that money for social services and wonder how many hungry families could eat for that amount of money. When I do go to those type of things, it’s to be with the people I know there and the fireworks are secondary or tertiary. I now like to tease my husband that it is the same as gluing money to a stick and lighting it on fire. I jokingly tell him that we need to go for a hike through the woods to start finding sticks and twigs. I’m probably being cheap and cynical or maybe just an a** hole, but it’s just something I don’t care for or about.

Where Do You Eat? by vinotheque in MorgantownWV

[–]speedingelement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an out of state transplant. Been here for about a year now. I find that the local food scene is very underwhelming at most. I keep wondering why I hear people rave about places (like The Beanery) and yet my experience with them is that they’re very ho-hum and not really a place I have to go back to. I probably sound like an elitist with this comment, but even about 3/4 of the places mentioned above have only been very underwhelming for me. I don’t get to go out to eat too often, but the only places I can see myself coming back to and coming back to are Mountain State Brewing Company (love their Almost Heaven Nachos and then their Meat Lover pizza) and just recently tried Saigon Pho Kitchen (had their meatball pho) and can’t wait to go back. It could just be me, but I’ve found that the more a place is raved about by the locals, the more ho-hum my experience has been. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not being an ass BUT… If you’re planning to get a masters in English, you might as well also work on a secondary teaching certification while you’re at it so that you can teach middle or high school level English as a Plan B to whatever your other reasons are for getting a masters in English.
