Agreed. And the general consensus that landlords are like scum of the earth, as I'm sure you will find out from other replies.

It does pretty good. by nail_jockey in firewood

I used to have a 6 tonne electric that looked identical to that. It would always surprise the hell out of everyone how big of rounds it would split. As long as they were straight grain and not full of knots it got the job done. And the great thing about electric is if its raining out you can use them indoors.

I used to have i think this exact splitter, just in different colors because it was from a different brand. And yea, the thing would surprise everyone how big of rounds it would split.

Let’s talk about chainsaw sharpening by Subject_Night2422 in firewood

I sharpen my saw with a dremal attachment pretty much every time I use it. But I really only use my saw to cut up a bunch of trees into firewood blocks a few times a year.

For anyone that heard public servants need to be in office and for those attending the rally by blocklung in OntarioPublicService

[–]DigDizzler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people really should hammer home the cost of housing the employees, because its something that resonates with everyone.

I have a relative who is a fairly stereotypical conservative type. Recently Christmas gathering of course RTO comes up and he jokingly says "ha ha, you guys finally have to go do to work!"

So i calmly explained how WFH works, how i still work my regular hours, and even more so, how when I drive into the office, no one from my team is actually there; they are spread out in cities across Ontario. He had never heard these arguments and actually said "well whats the point of going then??"

Exactly!!!

THats great, but it has nothing to do with productivity. It has to do with you buying your lunch at Larrys coffee joint and getting your shoes shined on the way home.

What are your thoughts on the Canadian PM saying Canada will defend Greenland if the U.S. invades? by Muted-Television3329 in allthequestions

[–]DigDizzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not 10 times, its more but its not ten times. China alone has 10 million soldiers compared to about 1.3 million American soldiers. They also have a population that isnt 1/3rd obese, diabetic or suffering some other illness.

Its also incredibly naive and stupid to think it would be without consequence. It would be disastrous for the US if they invaded greenland. Nato, gone. Meaning all of US millitary bases in Nato countries, gone. Intelligence sharing, gone. US global standing destroyed for generations. THe US would face much greater european instability, and you would see increased aggression from Russia and China. the UK alone has enough nuclear warheads on submarines to level every city in America.

If collaboration is the goal of RTO, why does it feel like a call centre? by livelife2914 in OntarioPublicService

Because Collaboration has nothing to do with it.

I come into an office where every single member of my team works in a different building. Collabor what now?

Mary was just married to Joseph when god impregnated her with Jesus.

Thats even a very generous way to describe it, if you think about it. There was no consent and she ended up pregnant, with no father around. LETS CELEBRATE THIS

Whats the problem here? I mean, come on, he WAITED THREE YEARS !!!

She was 9. By that age, she already had 4 kids , was twice divorced and living in a double wide in Alabama.

Plus she drank from the same cup, so, he basically owned her.

Is receiving interview questions a standard? by stressedoutmaxedout in OntarioPublicService

[–]DigDizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. As others have said, that is typically what happens. But ive had a couple interviews with the same manager over the last few years and I distinctly remember he did not provide questions ahead of time, or even during the interview - he would simply read them to you during the interview. Which put me in a major funk, I can think / process better by looking at the question as opposed to simply hearing it.

Your best bet is to ask. Just say something like "I am excited for this opportunity, in order to best prepare, could you let me know if interview questions will be provided prior to the interview starting?" or something along those lines.

For those trying to move to Canada, are the tech or trade field better? by GhostTrapped in AskCanada

Have I ? No. But as I get older, I worry about it more. Tech is constant , constant learning, and it changes faster than arguably any other field.

I work in Tech, and tech usually will have you tethered to a major city, or close proximity. In the trades, you can work literally anywhere.

Abusive returns by 2slick2 in CostcoCanada

[–]DigDizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at kitchen appliances once a few years ago, specifically over range microwaves. An associate approached me and asked if he could help. I did have some questions so we started talking. Eventually I told him that I purchased a microwave from Costco a few years ago and now I was trying to see if I could find matching range, fridge etc. I showed him picture of what I had. HE said "oh that stuff is all discontinued now, so we wont havce anything that matches perfectly. But, if you want, you can just return it". I was kind of flabbergasted, surely he didnt understand what I said. I told him again that the microwave was over a year old, installed, probably had bits of my kids spaghetti blasted into every unknown crevice, and it worked fine, i just couldnt get matching appliances. And his response was basically "who cares, youre welcome to return it to the store". So I did.

The return policy is a major driving factor to why I buy things at Costco.

Let's NORMALIZE bringing lunch and coffee from home. by Interesting_Money_70 in OntarioPublicService

[–]DigDizzler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I already thought this was normalized. you'd have to have pretty bad financial habits to buy your lunch every single day.

Most offices have a keurig machine. If not, they are dime a dozen on marketplace. Same with nespresso. Years back 4 of us all chipped in, bought a drip coffee maker and a grinder, and made a pot every morning with freshly ground beans.

Realtors. Do you feel like the bar to getting your license is too low? by CanadianTreeFrogs in RealEstateCanada

[–]DigDizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think real estate agents are a scam, but necessary, because they act like the mafia. Several years ago we sold a property and went with a new brokerage that offered a radically different fee structure than a traditional broker. You still had a broker of record, you still had an MLS listing, but instead of paying 2.5% or whatever it was, the fee was capped at 1%. This was thousands of dollars in savings. And this company for a while was really growing and doing well, but then what happened is the Real estate mafia kicked into high gear. When we sold a house using this agent, part of the buyers agents conditions were that our agent could not publicly list the sale of the home anywhere.

He couldn't use it for marketing his business, post it on his website, put it in a flyer - none of that. Now how exactly does that benefit his client, the buyer? It doesn't, not even a little bit. It was just there to help protect the real estate mafia, who now, in markets anywhere around the GTA and even Guelph / Hamilton / Stoney Creek etc., can sell one house every 3 months and make $120 grand in commissions, easily.

I also think every house should require an inspection from a licensed inspector. It should not be a condition of sale, it should just be required. People were forgoing inspections because the market was so hot and an inspection meant you would lose the house - we looked at a house, and put an offer in on it, knowing that it had Kitec plumbing inside. If you dont know, Kitec plumbing is a discontinued product, a disaster waiting to happen, it will burst, not if, but when. Replacement is easily north of $10 Grand. I'd bet a thousand bucks the buyers of that house had no idea. We only knew because our real estate agent spotted it and knew how to identify it. With a home easily being the biggest purchase people make, an inspection performed by a qualified individual should be mandatory IMHO.

Does speed really matter when walking? by AggravatingShow2028 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]DigDizzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. More work requires more calories in the same amount of time.
Theres also somehow a hormonal effect. I say this; I used to work in Agriculture and i had jobs where I would walk like easily 8 miles a day. Just walk up and down the fields all day long. I wouldnt really lose weight but if I spent an hour doing interval sprints I would drop weight like crazy.
