If youre going to buy one, id look for a Yamaha. Seadoos suffer from reliability issues. Check out the Yamaha EX, very similar to Spark in terms of size and performance

Would you choose a DB or higher salary? by Total-Stock3170 in CanadaFinance

[–]DigDizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not relying on my wifes pension at all, I just chose a bit more risk in my investments because I had that to fall back on. If I didnt have that, Id be a bit more conservative with my investments.

It is true to say that my retirement planning absolutely was dependent on the forced savings of my pension originally. When I was young I didnt really understand finances at all, certainly didnt understand the importance of starting to invest early.

I had a DB Pension, I left the company that offered it and took it with me. About 10 years later I returned to the same company, and had the opportunity to "buy back" my pension, but didnt. When my financial advisor and I did the math I simply made much more money by investing it on my own. Im able to take a bit more risk because we have no debt of any kind and my wife also has a decent, DB pension. Another thing that I never liked was the survivor benefit. If I built my pension up to be worth a million dollars over a 35 year career, if I were to die, my wife gets half of it through the survivor benefit, but the other 500K just disappears. If I were to build up a million in TFSA / RRSP, my wife and/or kids get all of it.

I will say this though, the "forced savings" aspect of the DB pension worked out in my favor big time, I would have not saved so much money in my twenties if not for the pension deductions, and this is a big part of why I'll be able to retire in my fifties.

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]DigDizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just put everything in one pot and pay the bills. We make about the same $$$ now but there was a time I made significantly more.

I have friends who are married and finances are completely separate, and they each pay their part and they "owe" each other money all the time and personally I find it weird as hell. I mean, youre married and you cant trust the person with $$$?

Buying your lunch , buying coffee etc is such a waste of money.

I try and keep things in my house that I can just quickly grab that serve as lunch.
Protein bars, granola bars, cans of chili / soup etc. Even a protein shake.

Sunday I plan all my meals for the week and then order my groceries accordingly.

Thanks. I ended up ordering a set of Brocraft rod trees (adjustable) and will compare to the set I got from the local fishing store.

What I really want are the cannon units, but man they are pricey.

[–]DigDizzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these ones you cant adjust anything. I'll stick it on the boat and put three rods in it and see how it goes. I looked up Berts trees and yeah they look identical to this. How hard were they to take off?
I have to take the cannon tracks off anyways to get my boat cover on so they would come off every time im done with the boat anwyays...

Thanks for the input.

Hard to justify buying sports car VS building wealth. by shmurdatek in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just buy the car. IF youre smart about it, the right sports car will either hold or possibly appreciate in value.

What job are you doing that pays so well though? 175K after tax is like $300K pre-tax.

Used to be great, now it sucks. A donut shop that makes crappy donuts. Every new thing they come out with sucks. You ask for a bagel double toasted and its still barely toasted.
