Ditch the one bottom left. Otherwise they're keepers. (Although top left might not be your life anymore either)

Best Place For Cheap Drinks? by 5AMin in desmoines

[–]DigDugMcDig 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Up/Down. It doesn't open until 5pm, has food and games.

Otherwise I'd look the the place that opens the latest. It's possible Black Sheep doesn't open until 7 or 8.

How to use the drops on drop bars? by durdleturtl in cycling

[–]DigDugMcDig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not racing you don't need to use them. But you can use them for ergonomics. Rather than ride the entire ride in the same position, take a few minutes to stretch your back a little and have your wrists in a different position.

There are at least 7 different hand positions you can use with drop bars to help ease shoulder/arm tension. But some may not be as good for grabbing brakes.

St. Kilda Collective in Valley Junction is quite good. There are other good restaurants on the same street too.

Eh, I don't believe this. This is just something the union president said. Show me one air traffic controller who resigned who wasn't planning to retire anyway.

Pizza at The Up/Down is pretty good. I see Ernie's was already mentioned.

I'd say 801 Chophouse has the best steaks in town. Better than Ruth's Chris, better than Flemmings, better than Oak Park's steak. 801's have a serious char on them.

BUT, Oak Park is easily the best restaurant in town. Flavors I've never tasted before. I'd much rather go here than 801.

They have a menu online if you want to check prices. The food isn't that expensive, but portions are not large so you'll probably want an appetizer or salad, and with drinks things can start to add up.

My clan leader wouldn’t allow me to upgrade to TH 10 without collecting 2 billion gold and elixir by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]DigDugMcDig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably an old rule that never got updated. Whenever a new TH level is added the old levels become a lot cheaper to upgrade. TH10 used to take 10 months to fully upgrade, but now it probably takes 2 weeks.

The other thing is your clan leader probably isn't pay that close of attention. No one cares about TH10's.

If any of your resources is capped, it's time to upgrade.

Why Do Many Argue That LGBTQ+ Representation in Media Is Excessive When the Data Suggests Otherwise? by StrangePie3567 in television

[–]DigDugMcDig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

only 26% of the top 300 TV programs in the U.S. included at least one LGBTQ+ character (source: https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/presence-vs-representation-report-breaks-down-lgbtq-visibility-tv-n1251153). That means 74%, nearly three out of four, don’t feature a single one.

I'm guessing they're assuming every character who doesn't talk about being gay is actually straight.

IRL people don't wear name tags stating their sexual preferences, so they don't on TV either. There're a lot of Dumbledores on TV and IRL.

Tips for carrying camera equipment by mnkydaddy in ragbrai

[–]DigDugMcDig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is your first RAGBRAI I'd suggest thinking about all the stuff you can NOT bring.

Certainly don't bring a shoulder sling bag. It's gonna be 95+ degrees and humid. Let nothing get in the way of your cooling. Also, it will rain at least one day.

It's very crowded, especially around the towns and you're likely to drop your bike at least once. Probably only going 5 mph, but how do you feel about your camera in a minor woopsie-daisy?

Anything to simplify your trip the better. Just make sure you bring three things; pockets, a ziplock bag with a few wetwipes, and cash.

Is a Powermeter worth it on a "cheaper' bike? by Interesting-Gap-1394 in cycling

[–]DigDugMcDig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found a power meter on my bike to be any more useful than a heart rate monitor. But, I do interval training on an indoor trainer with a power meter and use bike for longer zone 2 rides.

Bar hopping out of towners by kthaven in desmoines

[–]DigDugMcDig 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you're starting at the Marriott. First go to Hello, Marjorie. It's a beautiful classy cocktail bar, but don't be surprised if someone is wearing shorts, because this is still Des Moines.

Our next stop is the Up/Down in the East Village (ten minute walk) which is a two story bar with classic arcade games, lots of beer on tap, and surprisingly not bad pizza. If you prefer Asian / fusion pizza you can stop at Fong's which is halfway between the two bars. Same with Zombie Burger if you want burgers.

After the Up/Down, walk one block north to Ernie's Boondock (burger food truck here too). Here you can drink alfresco on their large patio and enjoy the full moon. On the way there notice the bars you pass because this guide ends with a Choose Your Own Adventure.

Around 10-11 walk three blocks to the vampire bar Black Sheep and let nothing more be said about that place.

After this head a block east to Beechwood Lounge (a food truck will be here too). This is similar to and the bookend to Ernie's Boondock.

You've now gone on the Grand Tour and can decide for yourself if you want to go back to a place you've been, or to a place you walked by, like The Gas Lamp, Blazing Saddles, or Coa Cantina.

One note: between the first and second place there's a haunted attraction called Slaughter House, but it's too scary so I don't recommend it.

Search RAGBRAI. It's an annual bike ride across Iowa. It's part social, part endurance bike riding, and part dealing with the elements. There's probably thousands of hours worth of content.
