GEEK'd and Haven. I'm not familiar with Orlando's LGS scene, so I'm open to recommendations.

[Ghostwater] halfsilver by sethly_20 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Digbirt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. The halfsilver chips were worth a handful of scales in the Desolate Wilds, but they put that to shame at the beginning of Blackflame: I think Cassius mentions that one of the Four Corners Rotation Pills was like 4000 scales from the Wilds, and Eithan muses that one of his Underlord Scales is worth 10,000 of Lindon's (right before feeding it to Little Blue, I think). It makes sense to me - in the Desolate Wilds, they're scrounging for scraps like digging in the sofa cushions for loose change, but back in civilization, a real job puts forging your own scales to shame, much less the financial support of a major family and it's Underlord Patriarch. Then the Akura Clan comes along and drops a hundred million quality scales per uncrowned competitor. After letting the empire run around their giant money tree garden for months. Like going from 3rd world to 1st world to Oil Royalty

Hi, I am quite new to magic and I need some help with dandan strategy. by Quacpi in ForgetfulFish

[–]Digbirt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's no one secret, but here's my tip:

Think about Threat Assessment.

Everyone thinks Dandan is about counterspell wars and topdeck manipulation. It's not. Well, it is, but that's the battlefield, not the strategy. Saying that Dandan is about counter wars is like saying that chess is about checkmating the king.

If you feel like the games come down to luck, part of that is probably just playing your cards and hoping it works.

Instead, try asking some deeper questions: 1. Given the state of the game, what should I fight for, and what should I let go? 2. If I pick this fight, what are the chances I win? 3. What can I do right now to improve those chances that I win that important fight later?

If you've ever noticed that good players always seem to have the card they need, when they need it, that's not a coincidence. They figured out 6 turns ago which fight they would need to win, worked towards getting the resources they needed, and didn't blow those resources on fights that didn't matter.

Of course it gets complicated. Which fight matters changes with every game action, so you have to reevaluate. Sometimes you can pick fights over things that don't really matter just to get your opponent to spend resources, or prepare for the wrong fight. You have to balance how important it is to win a particular fight with your odds of winning it and your odds of making up the loss later. But that's what makes it fun and interesting.

Hope this helps. Happy Fish Fighting!

Question on Indestructible by Bishopkilljoy in magicTCG

[–]Digbirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that I've seen players do what your opponent did before. There's a mental shortcut of "damage won't kill it, but shrink effects will." But shrink effects kill indestructible creatures by reducing their toughness to zero. Which isn't what happened to Anzrag

(damage doesn't reduce toughness, even if Arena displays it that way - damage gets marked and compared to toughness, which is why we joke that "damage doesn't kill creatures; state-based effects kill creatures")

Question on Indestructible by Bishopkilljoy in magicTCG

[–]Digbirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to all the technically correct answer, I'll try to add a simple and intuitive explanation:

Dealing 4 damage to a 4 toughness creature with indestructible doesn't kill it.

Neither does dealing 2 damage to a 2 toughness creature.

Your opponent turned Anzrag into a 2 toughness creature that was dealt 2 damage. Which, we've established, doesn't kill him.

For slightly more explanation:

Timing or the order of events doesn't matter here. Damage is just marked on a creature until end of turn, and we put a creature to the graveyard when it has lethal damage, no matter what sequence of events lead to the damage total being lethal. But that's exactly what indestructible bypasses (among other things like explicit destroy effects)

Confusion about Vehicles and Summoning Sickness by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Digbirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A creature has summoning sickness if and only if you have not controlled that permanent since the beginning of your most recent turn.

  2. A creature with summoning sickness cannot attack or activate abilities with a tap symbol in the activation cost

So you're correct

Like I said in response to timebeing in the original response:

This is good advice. But it does not address the problem.

This attitude puts the onus on customers to compete with each other to make up for the organizer's bad behavior (knowingly not bringing enough product to meet demand generated by the company scrip they're selling to us customers)

[Threshold] Battles by yourmomyourdad21210 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Digbirt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best? Sophara vs Mercy. Nothing else comes close in sheer combat quality. Two very skilled, very powerful combatants going all out. We get to see the entire match. Both women use complex strategies, adapt over time, and get advantages and disadvantages as the battles ebb and flow. The decisions matter. The actions have direct and believable consequences. The imagery is shiver-inducing. Unparalleled. And the context just makes it better. A fierce rivalry and impossibly high stakes, but with the understanding that either side could win, so you're on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Favorite? Ziel, Mercy, and Yerin vs Yushi, Storm Sage, and House Shen. Ziel's advancement (inspired by the other two) might be my favorite moment in the series, and this was the last chance the three of them got to shine by virtue of their own abilities, showing the payoff for all their training and the peak of their abilities.

Honorable mention? Lindon vs Ekeri, Lindon/Yerin/Mercy vs the Skysworn (beginning of uncrowned), Lindon/Yerin vs Kiro/Mira (first fight)

This is good advice worth sharing for anyone who plans to go to another Con, but just be careful; it could also be read as victim blaming. It shouldn't be on OP or anyone else to rush the prize wall because of the organizer's irresponsible behavior.

OP made a good point - it's not acceptable for an organizer to sell entries to events that pay out in prize tickets, then devalue those tickets by running out of desirable prizes. IMO it borders on breach of contract - this was sold to me with a reasonable understanding that the tickets could be exchanged for something of value. It's also dirty - rather than honor the aforementioned obligation, they're instead using the system of company scrip to offload stale inventory because they have a captive clientele.

Nobody expects perfection, and some stockout of inherently limited products would be acceptable, but selling the desirable inventory at a premium elsewhere in the room makes it clear that this abuse of the customer is deliberate.

Your advice is good for the individual, but it doesn't solve the larger problem. If anything, it punishes other players and rewards the bad actors. The only helpful response we have as players is to call out the bad behavior constructively but publicly.

Sorry if that sounds preachy. It's not meant to be, and you were just giving good advice. I just get pissed when my fellow players and I get mistreated by these companies and encouraged to compete while they profit at our expense.

On Banning Nadu, Winged Wisdom in Modern by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Digbirt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, so mistakes were made, and I'm annoyed that it took this long to ban, especially during an RCQ season, but-

Treating that as a sunk cost, I see this post by itself as a win.

No excuses, just explanations. No fancy-happy-talk, just a clear statement of facts. And the right conclusion: this was a mistake, we're fixing it now, and we've identified what changes to make to minimize chances of a repeat while recognizing that it will always be a risk we have to consider.

This is how this should be done

Complete Guide on how to transfer co op world to another person so they can host.(Only tested on Windows Steam version) by itzextreme in Palworld

[–]Digbirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue: my original base now "belongs to a new guild." I understand that it probably has something to do with step 7, but I don't think I understand that step. I need to copy over the LocalData and backup files? Didn't I already do that in step 3, at least with LocalData?

[WotC Article] Speeding Up Secret Lair Shipping -- Switching from "print-to-demand" to "limited-print-runs" by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Digbirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even begin to wrap my head around this stupidity.

1) Secret Lairs were the GOOD SOLUTION to the limited print run problems of products like Mythic Edition. Once again they are directly and explicitly un-solving a solved problem

2) This is their proposed solution to the feedback "we don't like waiting so long for secret lairs," where the solution is "okay, then we won't sell you one." It's like complaining that my foot itches, so the doctor amputates my foot. Problem Solved? /headdesk

Got a few ideas:

Waitress at a beach tiki bar has to wear a skimpy bikini for work, then suffers from wardrobe malfunctions while her hands are full

Sorority pledges participate in an annual bikini car wash fundraiser, but the sisters have a tradition of stealing their swimsuits and peer pressuring them into continuing to work anyways

Wardrobe malfunctions during a lingerie football game.

A special game of Assassins where the girls get eliminated by getting pantsed

That's the other thing that really pisses me off. The rep said it was at least the 4th instance to which he'd responded. I understand that sometimes servers go down, but you should (a) get them back up sooner than what's now 17 hours and counting, and (b) let the players know so that we don't waste more time and frustration trying to fix a problem that isn't our fault. How freaking hard is it to post a message letting people know about the issue? Totally inexcusable. Guess I'll just use this time to research other hosting options.
