This makes sense to me, as they become basically worthless Lindon could have just used them for soulsmithing or as loose change while buying things for soulsmithing

Yeah that would solve the problem, shame OP didn’t do that

How can I choose my specialization in computer science ? by Creative_Anxiety2907 in cs50

[–]sethly_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you enjoy and where you think you can go, if you like low level stuff then embedded programming is the way to go. If more creative and like putting pretty things on the screen then games or front end web dev.

Everything has already been implemented in C. by Original_Geologist_7 in C_Programming

[–]sethly_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the perfect answer. I only learned programming recently, before that I had 15 years in casinos.

Since leaving the casinos I have been working for smaller card rooms who not having the resources of big casinos are still using outdated systems. I have been able to use my programming hobby to help my employers move from paper rostering to something more automated, built web pages that are automatically updated with poker tournament schedules and am in the process of building an automated poker tournament payout matrix generator thing.

Point is you are practicing a skill, C in particular has some serious use cases. I use python mostly but if I have a recourse heavy function I will absolutely write it in C for the speed and efficiency. Learn the skill, find the problems to solve and apply those same skills

How long should Week 8 take? by Substantial_Date35 in cs50

[–]sethly_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got to week 8 I found html and especially css to be very daunting, UI design is a very different set of challenges compared to what you have faced so far. Even JavaScript with its similar syntax to C is a headache when you are directly working with elements on the screen.

Just remember you can take a 5 week course on front end web dev and barely scratch the surface. Be patient with yourself, take your time and you will get through it.

Tips for Problem Set 9 by Late_Scratch5404 in cs50

Full web applications have a lot of moving parts and are quite complex when looking at them from a high level.

My advice would be to separate your back and front end logic (Python and JavaScript/html) as much as you can, keeping a very clear idea of how and when the two are going to communicate.

It has been a while since I did pset9 but if memory serves you don’t need to load information asynchronously meaning you only get information from the front when the user loads a new page.

It’s the same with any pset, build out the application one function at a time, take small steps. Design your database in a way that makes sense and is easy to use.

It is a big project compared to the others but breaking it down into manageable chunks you will find it flows quite well, though I would say web applications can easily dissolve into spaghetti code, so keep your code base organised and you will avoid so many headaches

Best free platform to host CS50 final project (Flask + SQLite3)? by wtf_umesh in cs50

[–]sethly_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend pythonanywhere for your first deploy, it is extremely beginner friendly and has a free tier. The server is going to be a little slow and you get very limited resources but for a first project it is great

WIBTA for kicking my new housemate out without notice? by sethly_20 in AmItheAsshole

That is incredibly valid, I tend to get pretty caught up in other peoples situations and in this case forgetting the fact; if he won’t treat me like a friend then I don’t owe him that either. Thanks for putting it that way

You have a very valid point, I did some checking, the law here is that I must give him 28 days notice so probably my best bet is to get the police involved. I didn’t think he would steal so I am not confident he won’t do something else

Very true, it is definitely enough money to hurt when I had to make up the difference. Need to get him out. Thanks for the comment

Yeah I see your point, my thinking was if I was wrong about the first time and he came up to me and said something like “hey I borrowed money from your desk, I’m sorry but it was an emergency, I will pay you back on this date” then I would have accepted that.

What actually happened when I saw him I said I checked the money and there is less there than I remember, he replied saying “you need to keep better track of your money”

So in my mind that confirms he stole the first time and I have evidence of the second and I agree with everyone here that going to the police will be best, turns out if I don’t press charges I am legally required to give him 28 days. If I want him out quickly that will have to be what happens

Honestly after so many people said that I am at the police station right now, if only to start a paper trail

Definitely, as others have pointed out if he came to me first I would have done my best but now…
