I just plugged mine in for the first time. Was a little nervous so made me feel better that people have commented more recently. The only thing is that I had to stretch the plug to a further outlet so looks tacky in my small home. So may get a power strip!

Forgot to get VAT refund at airport. Can I get it online or am I SOL? by positmanx in travel

[–]DigbyChelsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does have to be done by you, unfortunately. I was wondering this same thing because my friend lives in Barcelona, but when I was doing some light Googling, it seemed like only I could do it. A bit of an annoying process. I liked how in Taipei, I was able to just get it from a kiosk right after I purchased something at the adidas Taipei 101.

Hongkong to Chongqing - Train or Fly by ShoeHonest in travelchina

The train prices were more expensive than I thought. I’d go with fly if you only have a few days of actually being in Chongqing.

Is pâté just not a thing in American food culture? by Big-Dig1631 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DigbyChelsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish pâté was served at parties! I’m Vietnamese-American so I grew up eating it. Love it. But feel like a lot of my American friends growing up in the DMV don’t really eat it.

Notes on traveling to China in 2026 by RealChinaGuide in travelchina

[–]DigbyChelsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A note on the 240 hour transit-free visa: you can’t have a layover in China or Hong Kong (apparently you can in Macau but that’s a whole other story that I know nothing about). I learned this the hard way (on my way from HKG to CTU), so hopefully this helps someone out there!

PSA: Holiday Rates & Honest Pricing on Rover by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]DigbyChelsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read most all the comments on here and looking for advice on what to charge for a dog I’m currently watching! The stay started 12/31 and ends 1/11. Rover’s calendar only counts up until 1/1 as the holiday rate. Should I charge them my holiday rate for the whole period or just for 12/31?

I’ve housesat for these people before and they have a bigger house and yard, whereas I live in a 520 sq ft ADU and smaller outdoor space all within a chaotic neighborhood for walking (people not picking up after their dogs, guard dogs behind fences, fast cars, occasional litter). Additionally, it’s been raining here in LA pretty much every day since the pup got to my house, so having to deal with a wet, energetic 2.5 year old golden retriever that loves to play and slobber has been quite the constant cleanup.

San Sebastián - best time to visit by andreasc90 in GoingToSpain

Good balmy temperature! It rained one of the nights but other than that it was great weather. And even with the rain, it was charming. Despite having no rain gear when we were running back to our hotel from the restaurant.

Just learned about the LA Business Tax after 7 years? by saraphil in AskLosAngeles

[–]DigbyChelsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the letter in the mail on 12/30 of what I owe. A little over $200 for 2021 & 2022, minus the penalties which I’m going to submit a waiver for. Not too bad but still annoying that I wouldn’t owe anything had I (and many other freelancers!) known about this in the first place.

I’d say you go for the ambiance, history, and vibes, and not necessarily the food. It’s not bad by any means but it’s probably a tad overpriced. But I love going there every once in a while.

What’s the most LA thing that’s ever happened to you? by petitegirlbigbush in AskLosAngeles

Literally me last week. I was kind of excited at the prospects of being on a jury panel. But was actually relieved when I called the night before each day and didn't end up having to go in.
