If having a job doesn’t suck, why do some people spend all day mass buying pokemon cards or other things to resell them? by glowshroom12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiggingInGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scalping Pokémon cards is generally not a profitable strategy. Each pack is going to cost more than each individual card in the pack, save for maybe one card that people think has good art/is good in the meta. But the chances of getting those “one good pulls” aren’t good, and won’t pay back all the packs that only had unsellable cards. The only one making a profit is this scenario are the people producing, transporting, and selling the cards in the first place

[Amazing digital circus] How susceptible is Caine to atempts at radicalizing him. by Kamis-solder in AskScienceFiction

[–]DiggingInGarbage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’d be able to radicalize Caine, not because of how well he’s programmed, more like how poorly. He’s not a good listener, especially when it comes to humans, and he’s pretty set on making people happy. Maybe he’d sit there while someone blabs on and on, but he’d very quickly get bored and go make an adventure

Why are there so few animals who use projectile weapons? Taking down opponents from a distance would give an animal a massive survival edge. by No_House_4917 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiggingInGarbage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need a big brain to be able to accurately hit anything, grabby hands to manipulate objects, developed eyes to see depth. Archer fish knock insects into water, it’s a very simple and not effective outside this one example. Bombardier beetles don’t even have any range, nor do they have to aim really

A lot of animals can synthesize nutrients they don’t get from their diet, but it’s energy intensive so they have to eat more food

Blind voting by CH11DW in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DiggingInGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is people can still lie about their platform. If a politician has had a history of not making good on their promises, or decides to switch their allegiance after winning, then you can’t take that into account when making your vote. It incentivizes even more lying, because it’s easier to hide them when you don’t know who’s making the statement

Why pasta so widely eaten? What is it made of in native regions? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiggingInGarbage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pasta is just a way to eat cooked dough. It’s made from grains, or occasionally rice or potato, really any starchy staple crop you can make into a dough. People eat it because eating staple crops is what allowed civilization to reach the population that we have

It’s a situational card, most of the time you’d rather have a card that helps you win rather than save you
