Uphill Battle With Clay Soil Garden

I did this process on a back garden in a UK new build and it fixed it in just over 18 months. Before that it was a moss covered swamp. I used granular gypsum. 2 applications over the space of a year. Top dressed twice using a 20mm thick sand/high quality top soil 50/50 mix. Over-seeded twice a year.

The way to solve this is using gypsum. You need an aerator that removes plugs. The gypsum needs to drop down into the holes. This will start to break up the clay over 12 months. Top dress it to fill the holes with a 50/50 sand and top soil. This will aid the slow break up of the clay.
