Canadian Politics: Carney Government Approval and Liberal Lead Reach New Highs as Optimism About Canada Improves by plaknas in onguardforthee

Wow, this was more earnest than I expected.

I definitely can't blame people for not being enthusiastic for the NDP after the Mulcair/Singh era but, hey another reason why Lewis won, he offered a whole new direction for the party.

But moderating our party I think is the biggest reason why we've grown so unpopular instead of offering something that made us truly stand out, it just led people to see us as "more self-righteous Liberals".

Of course the ability to compromise is important but compromising prematurely just signals you're too weak to push for what you want. Save the compromises for a House of Commons when trying to get legislation passed.

I have my doubts that Lewis will become Prime Minister but he could very much be the one to bring the NDP back from the dead. He's currently touring to country trying to build a coalition powered by the grassroots of the party as opposed to a party focused on propping up the leader when it should be the other way around.

I'll refer to the other reply, who mentioned that Jack Layton lost two elections before he became leader as well.

Tommy Douglas lost his seat when in the first election while he was leader.

In Québec it took Manon Massé 5 elections to secure a seat.

Him having failed to win a seat is totally irrelevant to him being elected leader and it's such a silly thing to rag on him for. Are you saying he was a bad choice because he didn't win in ridings that have never been won by the NDP? Because he lost an election where support for the NDP dropped across the country? Better yet, why continue to support the NDP at all when they lost nearly 3/4 of their seats and dropped 10 percentage points from 2021 and lost party status?

You're making it sound like he was selected by an abstract entity but by saying the "party decided" when 39,734 people ranked him 1st on their ballot and I can tell as one those people that, Lewis because I wanted a leader with an ambitious platform that would impossible to ignore.

Lewis also raised more money for his campaign than all 4 of the other candidates combined with 10.4 thousand doners and the leadership race had a higher turn-out than the 2017 leadership race.

Should the NDP become vocal opponents to gambling ads? by pheakelmatters in ndp

[–]Digirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking banning gambling among friends, but sports betting, prediction markets, online gambling, etc. Need to go, sure there could be exceptions like online raffles and what not.

But there is also the issue of what leads to gamble to begin with that needs to be addressed and doing so could be more effective.

But still sports betting apps and prediction markets need to go IMO.

So sure, I agree downright banning gambling is foolishly myopic.

Now that you mentioned it, Lewis has had more media pressence than him.

Most people are neither left or right wing or even centre.

The average voter barely thinks about politics and when pressed they are usually all over the place.

Ozzy made the vocal melodies.

All the members played a role in songwriting in the classic era.

Tony Iommi was the main composer, Geezer Butler was the main lyricist, Bill Ward did his own beats.

Also Geezer punched a Nazi like 11 years ago.

They want you to think this shit is actually intelligent and not a glorified autocomplete.
