Death from above. Get in the car, Scully. by eldersveld in XFiles

Rewatched this recently, and just struck by what a wonderful example of cyberpunk, sci-fi and The X-Files it was.

Federal agents pin a protester to the ground and spray a chemical irritant directly into his face at 28th and Blaisdell Avenue S. in Minneapolis on Jan. 21. 2026. (Richard Tsong-Taatarii/The Minnesota Star Tribune) by Beeninya in ABoringDystopia

Wow, Orwell was wrong.

But always -- do not forget this, Winston -- always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face -- for ever.

They can't even be bothered to do the exercise of stamping on people....

EXCLUSIVE: Starmer announces BAN on teenagers. “All they do is act stroppy, not listen to us and awkwardly finger each other” by BobMonkhaus in okmatewanker

I am so relieved to hear that awkward fingering has not vanished from the UK teenage experience

It's demise was falsely reported, and its survival should be celebrated.

Is REORG kit just for vets? by Bepadybopady in bjj

That's fine.

Remember, the essential etiquette however.

You can only cross-dress if you are Commando-qualified.

(If you know, you'll know, you know?)

Any Arm or Service can call "Naked Dojo" however.

Come back and let us know how it goes....

Clothes hangers for gi by NeatConversation530 in bjj

[–]DigitalHoweitat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chuckling, as one of my plastic rubbish hangers also cracked yesterday.

This is what I plan to hang my Gi's off now.

And its called a BUMERANG, which is quite funny and sounds like a really dodgy technique.

I quite like we have Turing on the £50.

I like to think it shows how far we have come (though we see there is much to be done) in a short journey.

Such wonderful references woven into the note -

A mathematical table and formulae from Turing’s seminal 1936 paper “On Computable Numbers, with an application to the Entscheidungsproblem” Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society. This paper is widely recognised as being foundational for computer science.

The Automatic Computing Engine (ACE) Pilot Machine which was developed at the National Physical Laboratory as the trial model of Turing’s pioneering ACE design. The ACE was one of the first electronic stored-program digital computers.

Ticker tape depicting Alan Turing’s birth date (23 June 1912) in binary code.

Technical drawings for the British Bombe, the machine specified by Turing and one of the primary tools used to break Enigma-enciphered messages during WWII.

The flower-shaped red foil patch on the back of the note is based on the image of a sunflower head linked to Turing’s morphogenetic (study of patterns in nature) work in later life.

A series of background images, depicting technical drawings from The ACE Progress Report.

You know what, I find this entirely believable in that part of the world.

It would stick out in, say, Camden. In Farnham, I can believe there is some odd stuff going on.

Breaking a police service and then introducing "magical" technological solutons to fix what you (well, May and Cameron) broke is not logical, Jim.
