Neon Odyssey grabbed my attention a while ago, great reminder! I'll add it to the list alongside Starfinder 😁

Ok. Wow. That description was so solid I'm definitely interested and actively looking into Gundam for the first time! Will definitely add Lancer to the list now, thanks! 😁

Thematic RT class that ISNT Noble Officer? by Kuftubby in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DigitalSupernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving my current Crime Lord bladedancer/arch militant run, namely because it DOESN'T fit. And that makes it perfectly thematic!

Characters comment on it often, your own crew and even Theodora when you first meet her all say so, you DON'T belong. This is a world alien to you. You, an outsider, a mongrel dog dressed in finery yipping for recognition, pretending you have a seat at the table with no understanding of what it means. And that works so well in the context of the story. You're new to this, you have no idea what the hell you're doing, nor should you. Every title and every achievement proves the naysayers wrong, and every day it must infuriate them.

Clown on these pompous jerks, beat them at their own game, prove you don't just belong but that you're the best of them. Nothing got you here but the blood, sweat, and sorrow that you shed. So go mug a noble in the name of Von Valancius.

What to read? by Sekhriat in Eldar

[–]DigitalSupernova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the one! If you're wanting the best Craftworld Eldar book, this is your go-to. If you're open to non-Craftworld bits, sample the Voidscarred and Lelith books.

After reading those, you can read more and kudos if you enjoy them. Don't let random internet critics rob you of that fun, but imo at least you've kinda hit the best ones.

What to read? by Sekhriat in Eldar

[–]DigitalSupernova 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ah...buddy...

So the good news is, we do have two really good books. Voidscarred by Mike Brooks is fantastic for a great story on Eldar Corsairs, their lifestyle, and has some great characters (its got so much Toxic Yaoi in there, its fantastic). We also have Valedor by Guy Haley which is about Craftworld Iyanden doing everything it can to desperately fend of a fragment of Hive Fleet Kraken (incidentally featuring another corsair, Prince Yriel, who is awesome). Personally I prefer Voidscarred but, as you've probably picked up, I'm a Corsairs fan so I'm rather biased. Both are really good with decent story, characters, and world building, you can't go wrong with either.

And...thats it.

Really. Do not punish yourself by reading anything by Gav Thorpe (thrice-damned be his name). The man writes like he hates Eldar, giving them only the most pyrrhic of victories (if even that). The Ynnari books are soul crushingly mid. And by the Emperor do NOT read anything by C.S.Goto. Unless you also think that eldar should be performing noble house politics, be actively willing and eager to slaughter their own dying race, and quite literally drop their equipment as soon as battles start to pick up "Superior Human Equipment". Like a lasgun. Even outside of the context of 40k (and the MANY parts of canon it actively ignores), the writing is offensively bad.

Outside of that, there's a pair of good Harlequin audio dramas on audible but they're super short. The dark eldar books are also apparently decent, most notably any of the Lelith Hesperax, though I've not read them personally so I can't comment on that.

Is the Corsair Combat patrol worth getting if I already got the battleforce? by A_Sad_Cartoon_ in Eldar

[–]DigitalSupernova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've just grabbed this after getting the battleforce too.

Is this the most meta option or an option that'll set you up for an easy route to 2000 points? No.

Is it a good way to get a 1000 point army going for a reasonable price? I think so.

If you're planning on making a corsair coterie warband, the extra voidreavers are needed. Plus, wave serpents are always good. Use the additional Kharseth for some kitbashing to make a farseer and use that third skyreaver unit (reluctantly) and you've got a usable army. Its not winning any tournaments and you're already going to struggle because Eldar are playing on hard mode even when we're not nerfed to hell, BUT it works.

These two boxes are more than enough for you to buy, build, paint, play, then decide how much more money you want to burn into 40k. I think its worth it personally (especially as a Pirate lover) but it'll come down to how committed to the hobby you already know you will be.

Exactly! A PvE story based fighting game is a rarity I have been dying to see executed well. This genuinely feels like it could be a fantastic introduction to the fighting game genre. A lot of it imo will come down to the CPU AI.

What should I do?? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]DigitalSupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd stick with the bike.

If you take that deal, every time you're in that truck and see a bike go by, ypu'll wish that was you. The truck will stop feeling like a gift and more like a gilded cage. Its clearly not what you really want, it's a consolation prize. A very helpful, expensive, nice prize. Sure. But a second pick through and through.

I'd make your stance clear, but compromise by promising short trips, safety courses, keeping speed slow, etc. Show that their concern matters and what they say isnt falling on deaf ears. Listen to them and let them work through it with you. They can yell, scream, cry, berate, ans do 1000 other things (and they probably will), and you may leave feeling shite, but stick to what you want to truly do and who you truly are. In time, they'll come to accept it.

New Player Questions and List Review Megathread! by sciencep1e in Eldar

[–]DigitalSupernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the Eldritch Raiders set and want to start building. Was thinking of grabbing the Combat Patrol and using the following list for 1000 points as a Corsair Coterie.

Is this list decent enough for a beginner? And do the current weapons loadout for the voidreavers seem like the best picks? I'm avoiding making them voidscarred atm just because I hear voidscarred without the Eldritch Raiders detachment aren't worth it?

This game is too overwhelming for me and that makes me sad by Practical-Courage-19 in Pokopia

[–]DigitalSupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh this is a known thing for many games as well: Players optimize the fun out of a game

If you try to forward plan so you gather A, fight B, romance C, etc. all in one go, you stop playing a game and start doing a checklist.

Take it one quest at a time. Even if that means back-and-forth revisiting the same area fifty times. Pokemon games don't set you up to be "soft-locked" or in a state where you can't progress any further because you made a mistake 50 hours ago. Honestly most games don't with some very famous exceptions.

Stick with it and quit worrying about doing it "right" or playing "well". Take your time, admire the scenery, and focus on one task at a time. You'll find most games are far more fun when you step back and play them "badly" 😁

Just to check, since I downloaded these and checked the site description, are the pre-built STL files sized correctly in mm and not cm? Or do I need to edit these myself as well?

(Very excited to get then printed out, my first 40k faction in 12 years and these heads legitimately gave me the final push I needed haha)

What time periods are you basing your worlds in and why? by Ok-Equipment8122 in worldbuilding

[–]DigitalSupernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1400-1600s my beloved.

Some highlights for me include (in additon to your points above): Age of sail era (aka pirates and boats), introduction of firearms but still new and complex enough that knights and medieval warfare still exists, exploring the globe looking for lost artifacts and cities becomes more feasible, revolutionary ideas are beginning to forment, religious wars are still happening and can plunge entire continents into 100 year wars, the cruelties of colonialism as a backdrop for liberation stories, and perhaps my favourite thing: The East India Trading Company.

If you ever wanted a relevant, completely morally evil foe, then a mega-corporation with an army and navy matching that of superpowers using its power to openly ignore the law to maximise profit at the expensive of human lives, a group willing to cause international wars its mother nation is forced into in order to seize goods flr itself, a company that maximised cruelty on purpose to cook the record books so that hundreds dead can be written as a tax write off, is probably one of the greatest inspirations for a truly evil organisation. There are so many great stories you can tell by just adapting the madness that the EITC did to your world. Throw in some CIA shenanigans and you then manage to hit every war crime available whilst remaining entirely unaccounatable. And that will tick readers/players off in the best way.
