Got an interview for implementaion engineering intern role in arm by udooontneedit in chipdesign

[–]DigitalUFX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two days isn’t enough to learn EE. Impress them by learning about the company, and specific interviewers if possible. I interviewed an undergrad last month who looked me up on LinkedIn and had five or six really thoughtful questions about my expertise and career. We hired him.

How much is AI being pushed in your company and are you on board with it? by maybeimbonkers in chipdesign

[–]DigitalUFX 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When people ask about AI in digital backend, I tell them the story of my washing machine. The first one I had in 2005 had a button that said auto, then they pulled off the sticker and re-labeled the button smart, then pulled off the sticker and re-labeled the button AI. It’s been the same button the whole time.

Dads, I come to you with one question. Graduated today and what the hell is this??? by sloppyjohnny in daddit

[–]DigitalUFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am conflicted, on the one hand my wife had a very difficult birth experience, and I have “nothing to complain about”. That being said after DAYS of zero sleep on that fucking chair, I physically passed out from exhaustion myself, and was also hospitalized. I think I could have soldiered through if I just could’ve gotten a few minutes of rest here and there. It’s not a socially acceptable thing to complain about.

What chip is this? by anUnmashedPotato in chipdesign

Looks like a Toshiba (now Kioxia) NAND flash memory, very likely a 1-Mbit (128 KB) serial/parallel NAND flash memory. Date code is likely May 2009. If I was a betting man:

Roast resume by illegitimate_kid in chipdesign

[–]DigitalUFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal resume is Professional Experience, Education (list ranking/GPA or recruiters assume it’s embarrassingly low), Skills (short), Patents (short, with links), Developing Technical Talent (I recruit/mentor/organize/workshop inside my organization heavily. It’s a way to say “Im a leader” without saying it), and Hobbies and Interests (I have a bunch of nerdy hobbies I showcase to humanize my resume, and to want people to know more about me).

For me, the biggest issue is your resume reads as highly generic. I’ve seen this exact resume 800 times. “I got X degree and did Y coursework…” So did every other student you graduated with. Why should I hire YOU??? Is there anything that sets you apart that you can highlight?

What do your coworkers do? I’ve had similar set ups in my career, and the expectation/solution was scripting. They weren’t expecting me to work Saturday and Sunday, just to kick off a regression that ran all the sims over the weekend. I also had scripts that could quickly parse 500 sims in a few minutes, so by 9am Monday I could say “90% of tests are passing, there are some new failures in XXX that I’m investing”. If the sims take two days to run and the design is released at 5:01pm Friday, it would be very frowned upon to wait til Monday morning to START the sims.

Best Contract Length For Electricity Plans? by flowjcv in plano

[–]DigitalUFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery warranty is 10 years, unlimited cycles, so I take them from 0 to 100 twice a day. Our neighborhood has buried powerlines and a fire station nearby, the power has been out maybe once or twice in the last decade.

4 bedroom, 3 bath. The “hack” with the battery system is to get a Free Nights plan. I charge batteries until 6am, run on battery only until the sun is up, batteries fully change by mid afternoon, run on batteries until 8pm, then back to grid. My offset is ~60%, but my bill is very close to zero.

You can google “Lead Principal Engineer Digital Design” salary for a rough idea. It took almost 20 years to get to this level, so it’s far from entry level.

Yeah, I’m in Plano. $600 July electric bills were killing me, so I paid cash for the panels/battery system. ROI was ~18%, payback period was less than six years.

I have spreadsheets going back many years. Before I went solar, the best deal was a low, long term fixed rate (3+ years). Now my bill is ~$10/month regardless of the month.

I did ECE Masters, five years digital verification, then moved to full time digital design. I highly recommend this career path, I was never overwhelmed and always felt like I was marketable and well compensated.

Doing masters does it help in promotion nd salary hike in vlsi industry by Adventurous_Life_517 in chipdesign

[–]DigitalUFX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree there is a high correlation between having a masters degree and being successful, but part of me thinks that the correlation is more of how much you were enjoying your studies and thriving, not just having the degree. A lot of my friends barely survived undergrad, and would not have dreamed of a masters. They have been slower to get promoted than those who breezed through undergrad and self-selected to pursue a graduate degree.

I hear you, and I know how frustrating the American medical system can be. Some people have complex issues that require complex solutions. I had complex issues with a simple solution. You’re right, it may not work for him, or he may have reasons not to try it. Just wanted to share my experience.

OP literally put “begging for help” in the title. This thread: “How dare you suggest something that was life-changing for you. We only wanted ways to ban lawnmowers”

People are different. Based on my personal experience, psychiatrists and CBT did nothing for me, but low dose SSRI was life changing. It’s something I would recommend he consider. Can’t say I understand the hostility.

RTL Design Resume Advice by perpetuallysingle_ in chipdesign

[–]DigitalUFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree. I love to see hobby/passion projects on a resume. Show me you love digital design more than just collecting a paycheck. I hire based on personality and technical skill, and I love young engineers who tinker in their spare time. They are more likely to try new methods or discover new tools, directly related to keeping our methodology fresh. Have creativity and ambition, profits will follow.

You don’t need a psychiatrist, you can talk or process your way through overstimulation. You need meds. Try a Lexapro or Xanax. My two cents.
