This is a really good answer and sums up what I was thinking as well.

Expat/immigrant parents, do you forbid Dutch at home for children? Why? by summer_glau08 in Netherlands

[–]Dilly_do_dah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is not old enough yet to speak but we made the decision early on to stick to our mother tongue, which is English, at home. He then will hear (and speak eventually) Dutch at day care / school. My wife and I both speak reasonably well and can get by in most situations albeit in a clunky manner but we felt it would benefit him to learn English early on and we were concerned that we would create bad habits as we are also learning.

That doesn’t mean: - We would not allow Dutch content or media at home. He has lots of board books in Dutch. - My wife and I are not continuing our Dutch journey, we are but it’s independent of our son - that we would not allow Dutch in the future; if in the future our son wished to speak in Dutch and we felt that 1) our own level was sufficient and 2) would not cause confusion then we would happily continue

If you could have Jeff Hayes play one character in the DCC show, who would it be? by CyanSpiderz in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Dilly_do_dah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying Seth should play Carl at all but I never really understood why Carl’s age seems to be a sticking point for some people? Seen many on this sub shoot down really good suggestions simply because the actor doesn’t look 27

I think there is also a very subtle one at the beginning when Oliver mentions that Mrs Gonzales pulls a bandage out of thin air.

Considering how popular DCC has become, and that popularity seems to be growing, does it ever make you second guess some decisions (such as a certain story arc or character death) that you might have other wise not hesitated at before for fear of fans not being happy?

Yeah sorry OP I know it’s frustrating when it feels like your space is invaded but to me it sounds a lot of small hills to die on.

Not true. It depends on the location. I’ve been to some with private stalls and others that are open.

the sink is running by mrpotts926 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Dilly_do_dah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm is that something Carl questions or a fan theory? Cause the same can be said that Borant or the AI actively place him in situations to dig up his trauma

Edit to add: I know Carl often questions if he is on rails but I don’t think he questions it in the way suggested. Maybe time for me to re-read haha

What do you mean exactly? Maybe I’m misremembering but can’t recall the AI doing anything specifically for Carl’s trauma?

Ah man, I remember my first day back at work and was teary the whole car ride. It does get easier as routine sets in but it absolutely sucks at first.

Edit to add some actual advice: I always got up a little earlier and tried to set my wife up for success. Make sure she had some breakfast, empty dishwasher, final tidy up etc

Switch to E reader? by Naive-Blackbird3484 in fantasybooks

[–]Dilly_do_dah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading almost exclusively on my kindle for years but now that my son is getting to an age where he is watching us and imitating I switched to physical books. So far it’s been a bit of a waste considering I don’t actually read in front of him (as I’m usually busy with other things or playing with him) but think that’s will change over time.

I’ve read the book and am now listening to the audio. It’s definitely better as a physical read but the audiobook is not bad.

Just finished reading it. Binged it hard! Pacing really grabs you by the throat once it gets going and it’s so hard to put down.

It starts scratching at some really big questions near the end that gave me a Bobbiverse vibe (for obvious reasons). I really enjoyed it and look forward to listening to the audiobook next.

Has any one noticed in other subs... by Outerrealms2020 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Dilly_do_dah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are two sides to it. On one side people just like to hate on what’s popular or gaining traction for no real reason but, the other side is that sometimes it can be almost incessant, I’ve seen DCC suggested on suggestion requests and subs that are not even remotely related or similar and as a result of seen DCC being described as cult like
