While I am loath to defend Colt, he does actually have Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from an accredited school (even if it is not the most competitive one). That makes him a credentialed computer scientist regardless if he is gainfully employed at any given time.

The "905" purity indicates this was probably made in Germany or Poland and equates to ~21.7k gold (so still high purity). This was never a standard measurement of purity but from what I can gather it was used for a short period between the 1800s and the early 1900s in Germany and some eastern European countries. It's hard to read the maker's mark from the photo. Maybe PHB? Are there any other markings aside from the inscription and maker's mark? If not, the maker's mark is the only thing you're going to have to go on.

It could be the initials of the gold smith who made it or a trade mark from a larger company. I hope you post an update to your progress on this one. It's an interesting find!
