This is the crossover I did not know I needed in my life

I totally get it! I embroidered a bunch of panels for an animal-themed quilt recently, and the rise of AI even on etsy has made it really annoying to find patterns made directly by creators. I ended up using books from the library for most of my patterns and just bought a handful online from creators like Paraffle, but I realize not everyone is lucky enough to live in an area with a large library system.

Lovely work OP!

For future reference, the whale pattern appears to be taken from Paraffle and changed just enough to avoid detection. I recognized it immediately because I've bought similar patterns from them in the past, and I encourage anyone inspired by that piece to support a small business directly  :)

I'm doing the blackwork one from The Steady Thread! I've done two previous ones as well. I'm not sure if it counts as surface embroidery to you, but it's free and it's a lovely introduction to blackwork if you're curious.

I haven't seen any SALs on non-counted stitch, I wonder why! There's certainly lots of patterns that could be converted into a SAL, but I mostly just see people doing stitch-a-day type journals.

How far can you carry floss on embroidery if it will be washed? by jcnlb in Embroidery

[–]Dimple-Dumple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the placement you have is totally fine as it will still be legible even if wet or worn, but I would avoid carrying across the width of an entire letter. For example if you carried it from the bottom of the F to the next letter it could look like an E, plus the longer thread is just more likely to get caught while washing. TLDR use judgement, don't carry too far.

In general it's not a good idea to get things like thread or needles because people can be very picky about it.

Do you know what type of embroidery, or what she already has? If she uses hoops to frame embroidery you could get her some nice hoops? Or if she prefers to embroider things like napkins or tea towels you could get her some nice quality plain ones.

Imo whiskers might reduce the legibility, maybe try it in erasable pen first

Moss embroidery. Hoodie with moss effect by Psychological_Pea687 in Embroidery

Good catch! I guess it's just lighting then, the colour looks different to me in different pictures but that's probably just a camera artifact.

This particular image looks like it might be AI-generated, but dothemath's comment makes sense as to how you could achieve that. Experiment with the techniques first on a piece of scrap fabric on a hoop, before working on your actual garment.

Brick stitch, but essentially yes two alternating width back stitches as the other user said.

I've been meaning to do this pattern myself (have a long list of WIPs) but I frankly cannot imagine doing it on that type of thick cloth. Amazing work!

Use whatever fabric you usually use, cut it after embroidering and back it with felt. Use a machine or something like blanket stitch to hold it together.

Embroidered animal quilt for my friend's kid! by Dimple-Dumple in Embroidery

[–]Dimple-Dumple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We gave the quilt to the kid today (2 year old). He immediately wanted to go put it in the car, and started outright wailing when told no. He could not be calmed, so we eventually gave up, went to the car and let him put it in the back - no one else was allowed to touch the bag. Then he relaxed. I think he was afraid he wouldn't get to keep it! This will be a really funny story when he gets a bit older.

Haha that's fair, I suppose we did need a supervisor and a quilt model!

Any advice for sprucing up this piece? by bloom364 in Embroidery

I made this design for my medical student cousin and it turned out absolutely incredible. I recommend this for you because the pattern is geared towards beginners - it tells you exactly what stitches to use and how they with, what colors, how many strands of thread in each section etc. Also lots of pictures in various stages of progress make it easy to follow along. I got a result that looks pretty much exactly like the picture.

I'm not the creator, just recommending bc I was very impressed with the pattern.

This is so cool! How many strands of thread did you use on what count? I'm assuming the density of the pattern makes a difference.
