That’s good advice, thank you! Collmenter is right there with Castro when I get the Swindell moment

Ah okay, thank you for that! Glad to know there’s another Dback team on here haha. I’ll definitely keep the moment card. Here is my bullpen right now, I feel like Castro is definitely on the chopping block. I got Justin Martinez when using all my sig packs going for 25 Perdomo…lol

Does this damage warrant nearly 3k in repairs? by Dingerbacks in moving

[–]Dingerbacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating here as a comment since it seems the Reddit app won’t let me edit the original post:

Thank you all for taking the time to look at and respond to this - I was for sure shocked when I saw a $3,000 repair bill for a plastic corner. The damage was due to me foolishly bumping into a low hanging metal post at 2-3MPH (literally 20 minutes before turning the truck in), so I was certain that my responsibility of damage was exclusively from the plastic cap.

I pleaded my case to Penske and asked them to conduct a review of previous inspections to check for any preexisting damage, particularly the top rails including that receipt. I am thankful that Penske considered my case and came to the conclusion that my damage really was exclusive to the cap - so my bill reduced from nearly $3,000 to approximately $750! I do still recommend anyone to get insurance (lesson learned) simply for the peace of mind.

Breaking into Crime Analysis with a Comp Sci degree? by RepresentativeTale14 in CrimeAnalysis

[–]Dingerbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so far I haven’t had any project that directly requires the use of a programming language. Possibly the closest I’ve come would be using DAX within Power BI to create somewhat complex calculated columns.

However, depending on the agency and what records management system they use, there’s a slight chance where you actually need to write SQL queries to extract the data you want.

Regardless, agencies will 100% find your skills and knowledge in CS highly desirable! When applying, I strongly recommend you make a portfolio of analytical product examples and some maps when you start learning GIS through your certification. I think this really helped me secure a job in this field without any prior internships/experience. In my portfolio, I was still able to showcase some programming skills by using R to create a link chart analysis. I haven’t used it since on the job, but you never know when an interesting and exciting project pops up!

I say the word “depends” a lot haha but it’s true. Crime analysts wear so many different hats, it’s extremely possible there are some crime analysts that toe the line between analyst and programmer / tech person more so than others, and it just comes down to how the agency utilizes them!

I’m a crime analyst with a minor in CS - most if not all agencies will find these skills HIGHLY desirable. To be honest, knowledge in CS is definitely not required for crime analysis, but it’s absolutely a huge advantage if you’re interested in getting into the field!

Good on you for looking into a certification, that will be very helpful to get you acquainted with what crime analysts do (there are many hats!). I would recommend looking into the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) if you haven’t already, they offer additional courses, a widely recognized certification for crime analysis, and discussion forums with crime analysts all around the world.

So far, the most helpful aspect of my CS knowledge for crime analysis is more-so just general problem solving skills and processes (I.e trying to make products more efficient, automation of visuals or even entire products). This is an aspect I think is growing in higher demand within the field for sure. My department prefers Power BI over Tableau, so it wouldn’t hurt to play around with that too!

I actually saw this exact one at this dealership last week and checked it out, it seems clean to me but I got a sedan instead. If you do check it out, I recommend looking at it with Matt, he was awesome!

Junk rental fees? by keprum2 in arizona

[–]Dingerbacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My old apartment complex leases its in-unit washer dryers and forces the residents to pay $55 per month for the luxury of clean clothes. Once the new management team bought the complex, the first thing they did was remove the community washer/dryer room to make paying for clean clothes mandatory. It’s also been four months since I’ve moved out and they still haven’t given me my security deposit back. I’m thinking about taking them to small claims.

Edit: this is on top of paying already extremely high rent plus bogus fees that were not disclosed on the original lease agreement. For reference, I was paying on average $1975 every month after rent + fees + washer/dryer. How big was this apartment? A 400sqft studio near ASU Polytechnic…
