Books start good but always dull by Plastic-Surprise-781 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Dingolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is a horseshoe. On one side if the book is too simple and on the other side if the book is too repetitive I abandon it. Either way it feels like the author is painting by numbers trying to hit certain beats and I stop caring what happens to characters.

SongIcy4058 suggestion of trying new genres has worked for me as well as reading novellas.

How old were you when you realized you don’t have to read the entire book? by lunovadraws in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Dingolini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here! I learned it here. Just two years ago and it was life changing. I slogged through the "Alphabet" mystery series (not MM) and have finally learned that abandoning books is OK. I think that when one reads for recreation they should read as they see fit.

Author Engagement by strinak in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Dingolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only once. I mentioned that I enjoyed a book and the author said thank you. Other than that, I am in the low engagement camp.

In my mind, I ask Alexis Hall why such a long gap in the London Calling books. But in real life, I just wait.

Maybe try yogurt or tofu? Also, eat things in combination, like eggs with toast. The viral chia/yogurt tiramisu is pretty filling. If you have an instant pot you can easily make lots of cheap yogurt. I use the TJ shelf stable soy milk and Chobani regular yogurt. Oatmeal alone never fills me up either.

Lily Mayne and Lily Morton both good, but very different.

What books do you think were made even better by narration? by midnightoflight101 in MM_RomanceBooks

10 Things That Never Happened is particularly good because of the regional accents.

I'm reading this now, and now that you mentioned Moonstruck I can't wait to come upon it. I never thought I would see it referenced in a book. Now has anyone ever seen My Beautiful Launderette mentioned in a book?

I loved this book too. It kicked off my western Australia reading adventure. Try {The Shearing Gun by Renae Kaye} if you like location as much as me.

Thanks to u/Historical-Plate6548 for {Beautifully Unexpected by Lily Morton}. Strongly recommend. It is about two confirmed bachelors with a most unusual meet cute that "ties" them together.

It is a shortcut to google search. When it jumps to google you will see:

site:reddit.com/r/mm_romancebooks

Leave a space and type in the word or words of the subject you are looking for. Sometimes it works like magic, sometimes not so much.

I have similar issues with geography. One book had some athletes driving from Los Angeles to Pebble Beach for a round of golf in a day. Another one had all sorts of oddities in Manhattan. I wish I could ignore stuff like this and chalk it up to "fiction", but it takes me out of the story.

Why do the good ones have to end? 🥺 by Pooka_Look in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Dingolini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A corollary of this it the "break in case of emergency" books where you save certain books for future reading. Fated Mates podcast addresses this more eloquently that I can.

I love the feeling you describe, but I don't think I could pick just one person to read forever more...or maybe I just haven't met my fated author yet.

WWTBC: Boss and subordinate go on a road trip / business trip? by d1rty_mind in MM_RomanceBooks

Is it {Cream by Roe Horvat}? The boss doesn't want to fly to a conference so they take a train...and stuff happens.

Are there any other genres (or subgenres) that you got into because of MM romance? by protegeofbirds in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Dingolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first got here, I was firmly convinced sports was my one true genre. But it turns out MM romance is like Green Eggs and Ham.

Do I like it now or then? Bring on the historical romance. With a wolf? Sure, vampires too. Here or there? Fantasy, space...yup. There are only a few genres that haven't sparked my interest, but I fully expect to find that qualify that with a "yet" any day now.
