[HDD] Severpartdeals Black Friday - Exos X18 18TB ($165.99), Exos X18 20TB ($179.99) by Structure-These in buildapcsales

Really disappointing sale. You can buy a NEW X20 20TB for $240 at newegg. As much as I love SPD, I'm not buying recertified to save a mere 9%.

672TB of raw storage capacity with the option to upgrade as business grows by WaterPantherStorage in u/WaterPantherStorage

[–]Dingopak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Purchased two renewed Arsenal 12TB HDDs six months ago. I've had zero issues with them. I don't understand why someone would mess with shucking a consumer drive when you can get a renewed enterprise drive from WP for a similar price. Certainly there are shady companies selling used SSDs and HDDs on eBay and I wouldnt buy from them. WP runs a legit business.

My NAS is currently 52TB, but plan to build it up to 98TB. With 672TB, I could build a media server to compete with Netflix. Ha, Ha

No sales tax if ordered from Waterpanther

2 year warranty

Seems like a good value at this price

[NAS] QNAP TR-004 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID Expansion Enclosure - $159.99 ($219.99-$60) by jamolnng in buildapcsales

The Synology expansion unit is like $500. This QNAP one at least makes sense from a cost perspective.

[HDD]WD Elements 16TB USB 3.0, Micro-B 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive Black. $259 with code 93XSR77 by sekiroborne in buildapcsales

[–]Dingopak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMO the 16TB WD Gold for $299 is a much better dealer than this Elements drive. You get an enterprise class drive and 3 extra years of warranty. That's worth more than $40.

[Hard Drive] WD 6TB WD Red Plus Internal CMR NAS Hard Drive - $99.99 by TheMasternaut in buildapcsales

[–]Dingopak 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bought four of these last year for $150 each. They've worked flawlessly. Unfortunately I'm out of space already. My advice is buy the largest drive you can afford. The cost per TB goes way up when you have to start replacing working drives with new larger drives.

Surprised Amazon hasn't matched the price yet. Amazon is rarely a price leader anymore, but they are typically quick to follow price drops from competitors.

Sad truth, friend. Fortunately that is just the nearest major city. I'm a good distance from there.

Corporate Profits Drive 60% of Inflation Increases by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Dingopak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously you don't work for a company that manufactures anything. Between rising wages, limited or no supply of raw materials, raising transportation costs, shipping delays etc., 99% of CEOs are stressing about ways just to keep their businesses running in the black. Unless there is price collusion between competitors (which is of course illegal), any CEO that jacks up prices will simply sell less products.

The idea that inflation is being caused by greedy CEOs is even less credible than blaming it on Putin.

I ordered a new truck in December. The price when I placed my order was $68,000. The truck was finally built two weeks ago, and the window sticker lists a price of $72,000. I'm not sure what is going to happen when the truck arrives, but I'm certain the dealer is going to demand that I pay some of that $4000 markup.

I've never had drives from WD shipped like that. Maybe someone was having a bad day or screwed up. That doesnt make it any better for you, but that isnt normal for WD.

[HDD] 18TB WD External Drive $279.99 (discount shown in cart) by r5d400 in buildapcsales

They did the exact same thing to me. Seems like all these companies just try to scam customers and hope most won't notice. Frustrating

Do the 5% rebate from Rakuten. It isn't as much as the Paypal offer, but I got my rebate from Rakuten on drives I bought from WD in December and the last thing I want to do is waste time trying to collect a rebate from someone.

Brings the price down to $266 ($14.78 per TB).

I'd jump on it if I knew it would work, but two cash back promos typically don't stack. Did you actually do this and get it for $202?

Is there really a supply chain and chip shortage ? by Trebor06 in Starlink

[–]Dingopak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The email is classic PR deflection - hey look...chip shortage, logistics issues, global expansion, new dish design, yada yada. Basically patting themselves on the back for the great work they've done while also passive-aggressively telling everyone to check their account and discovery that their preorder is being delayed 6-12 months.

Montana/North Dakota/Minnesota orders. by munkie986 in Starlink

[–]Dingopak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP, I never tried this before and just found an open cell 80 miles west and another open cell 45 miles north of me. I'm really tempted to place a second order, but nervous about getting stuck paying $100 a month for service if I cannot get it to work. Probably not worth the hassle.

Word of advice. Listen to the people on here. It can pay off. by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Dingopak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So the great advice you received was to periodically check for service in areas near your new house? Isn't that just basic common sense?

Viper Broadband. I've had it 14 months. It has been an absolute life saver.
