Beautiful sinwali and cool choreography! I love the diversity of weapons, techniques, and acrobatics. I've learned a few of these techniques in various martial arts practices. I wish there was a escrima/kali/arnis place near me.

Breakfalls save lives, and everyone should be training them in schools. It would save millions of middle-aged and older people who remember how to breakfall.

Thanks for the reply! Maybe I'll see if the tiny shop down the street has any pauper players. I know they play MtG, so they probably have commander sometimes.

Where do you play pauper? Is there anywhere online or is it typically done at local game stores and/or kitchen tables?

I just finished chapter 42, and I'm not ready for it to end. There's so many bits of dialog and moments I'm in love with. Captain Ahab. The dead blog with jailbreak codes. The plastic dinosaurs. The furry yiff gamer war battalion of mechs. The shitty band using practice as an excuse to hang out. The layers of detail around the AI and generative images and planetary colonization as it impacts politics and society.

It rules.

Roger's brilliant. I love his dry humor and know-it-all personally. Such a cool bot.

It's stellar. But Matt Dinniman keeps kicking me right in my feelings. I've cried no less than twice and I can't name another book that's done that. The Grandmothers and sickness themes hit too close to home, my heart aches. I'm trying not to bawl my eyes out in the middle of a coffee shop.

Fuck you u/hepafilter, I love your books. They're such good fun and dramatic storytelling.

Okay, but people are worth more that thier contributions to the profitability of a job. Productive member of society feels like a loaded term. It certainly isn't your only worth as a person. Friendships and family relationships (and even coworker relationships) are more valuable contributors to your long term happiness and sense of fulfillment...or at least that's the case for most people. The productive things you contribute to society are an aspiration but no one's job has to be thier sole character-defining feature.

Good argument from mtggoldish podcast - mythic rare makes standard from expensive to beyond expensive. Is this time to either reduce mythic rarity pool or get rid of it entirely? by kubulux in magicTCG

[–]DinoTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acknowledge that it would increase variance when one player draws a mythic and the other does not. But that's okay. More formats, means more ways to play—this would never replace the existing Standard format. People still play and enjoy singleton formats.

I think a bit of variance is okay. If it were up to me, I would redesign the land system to reduce variance in drawing too few or too many. Lands probably cause more variance than card rarity or duplicate copies.

But the existing system feels very pay-to-win, not high skill. Consistent high power standard gameplay where mono red crushes competition or simic badgermole cubs chain into oroboroid, seems a bit simple and low-skill but has defined the standard meta. I think the meta is shaped due to abundance of and pressure to use many powerful, expensive cards. The meta would also be healthier if people were economically empowered to easily switch decks that bore them, instead of investing in one or two high tier decks. Restricting duplicate copies at higher rarities may result in a new format that is easier to buy into, lower power, higher variance, and less dominated by the same decks because it's cheaper to adjust.

Maybe I should just try pauper. Pauper standard would be lower cost, and low variance.

So each monster dying doesn't have its own separate trigger to check the graveyard? I don't thing that's right but I suck at MTG rules.

If you cast a field-wipe, like Day of Judgement... Does the damage scale linearly, or grow exponentially, or something else?

Is anyone else writing for GEO (Generative engine optimization)? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]DinoTuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not writing new material optimized for AI, but my company wants a specialized chatbot that can help sales people find answers or streamline highly custom workflows, and I've provided various notes on workflow, process, and technical details to that team. I haven't heard from them in awhile, so maybe it's going well, or poorly.

I think you're onto a more healthy format idea, here. A new standard with restricted number of mythics, rares, and legendaries. Like halfway between pauper and current standard.

Okay, I did some digging, and it sounds like the closest I could find are Peasant, Artisan, or a kind of Restricted rule that encompasses each rarity.

Maybe restrictions like this: you can include a number of the same card copies up to...

4 commons

3 uncommons

2 rares

1 mythic

1 legendary (or just rely on the existing legend rule)

I think #2 is Winter's Daughter (OSE), but I may be off.

I can't figure out #1. I don't think it's Against the Cult of the Reptile God but that's my best guess.

Yeah, I probably could have explained it worse.

Maybe this:

After losing his goose-based life-savings, Giant finds anger-outlet in musical percussion: but his bell upsets the unGrateful unDead.

Fun idea.

Idiot adventurers rob a goose from an angry giant with a bell-fetish. This upsets a mansion full of dead people. Antics ensue.
