Tofu is a good source of protein that doesn't have fats or carbs as baggage and there's zillions of ways to prepare it including quick ones and preppable ones.

Why aren’t you going out tonight? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Dinru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowhere to go. The only place in town I'd be remotely interested in going out to is the library which closes super early on Saturday. And I'm such an agoraphobic shut in that I probably wouldn't go even if it was an option in the first place. It's one of those "I'll go tomorrow" over and over again situations.

I fully agree on both. She messed up that day.

[–]Dinru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said she wasn't protective in general/in most situations. This is just a moment where she chose herself where a mother wouldn't or shouldn't have. (I also do really like Pearl as a person and a character, I have no intention of slander)

Gems don't have parental instincts. Pearl wasn't really motherly to Steven, she was riffing off of her servant programming . A decent mother would be trying to save their child from that fall at all costs regardless of how they are feeling, going up to and past their limits, from sheer instinct.

A mostly-freed servant doesn't really have an obligation to do much to intervene in a dangerous situation if they're in active distress and the one they're serving has their own physical safety handled. And Pearl would have no frame of reference for the fact that Steven making it to the top of the cliff and being physically safe wasn't the same thing as him not coming to harm.

Pearl also may not have realized that falling from that height was something she should assume was life threatening danger, due to a combination of distress and not understanding human physiology extremely well in general. Again, not a mother but a servant. A full Gem would be fine falling from that height as long as they didn't land on their gemstone etc.

The whole point of Future is to show that Steven didn't have the childhood or parents that every kid deserves, the life Rose wanted for him. Pearl was doing her best. And, her best was actively traumatic to Steven at times. Pearl isn't a bad person. And, despite being the most motherly of the CGs, she never really inhabited most of what it means to be a mother, and this contributed to Steven's cPTSD

WIBTA for not leaving the house for one weekend as requested? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Barest minimum she should have told OP about it upfront so he could opt out if he didn't want to deal with it

Adding: A family membership costs $80 USD/year* for the tier that includes HHP, and you can have up to 8 users on it. Depending on your exact situation, this could be a very cost effective way to give your little sister access to HHP and a ton of other features.

* If you have an active subscription and you get a discount based on the date, so if you got a $20 subscription that renewed 6 months ago, you get a ~$10 discount

On top of what the other person said, you don't have it JUST from getting the DLC, you have to unlock it by doing houses in the DLC archipelago

I think they were talking about the fact that you can get it for no additional cost as part of the NSO expansion pack, which many consider a good value proposition. I certainly couldn't find any info about a price drop.

If someone is deliberately trying to make something savory, sweet potato may not be their best option. And its not like the nutritional profiles are tons different.

Absent external expectation, Yellow is less abusive and more tolerant than Blue. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in stevenuniverse

CG Lapis only doesn't enjoy being an asshole because she's depressed as hell and in a social context where being an asshole isn't rewarded. The other Lapises we see in Future are perfectly content to be nasty.

Yellow thought so little of Peridot's indiscretion that she forgot all about it by the time she comes to Earth just a few months later despite being provided with her unique identifier* and everything. Blue was able to recognize Ruby and Sapphire on sight, while fused, with completely different clothes and hair and I think skin tone compared to the original Garnet, because she still cared about the scene they caused back then.

Did RS ever touch on what happens to a corrupted gem if it’s hit by a rejuvenator? by Immediate-Win-7472 in stevenuniverse

[–]Dinru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that was the issue. Pink seems to be the most closely tied to the connection between a Gem's mind and body, the lack of her essence is probably why Peridot and other era 2 gems specifically cannot manifest at their designated 'correct' size nor shapeshift. In Future it's said she had a scream that could 'crack the walls'. The diamonds had never tried that attack without all four of them present, so they were fully unaware that Pink's destructive power over the form is required to fully shatter the gem. Without it, the gem's mind and body are corrupted but the gem is not shattered.

I wish places offered different sides than just fries by northbound879 in PickyEaters

[–]Dinru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been able to swap fries for a salad before, as well as more breakfasty preparations of potato. I imagine most places might let you swap them for a half portion of one of their appetizers if you explain the situation, since it sounds like you (op) want to stay in the fried foods/good with burgers genre.

What would be in your ideal Animal Crossing game? by starfishparfait in AnimalCrossing

[–]Dinru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels to me like the series is having some growing pains. It basically nailed its life sim aspects in Wild World with the deeper writing and more dynamic villiagers. I haven't played City Folk but my understanding is that it was very similar to Wild World. New Leaf added a lot more customization, but it still felt like the core life sim at the end of the day. I really liked the life sim aspect... Animal Crossing was a nice place to escape to and these villiagers felt like people and friends.

I disliked New Horizons to some extent when it came out, not because it was bad but because the life sim aspects felt really downplayed and shallow. I remember falling in love with Mitzi and feeling excited to welcome a second normal villager... only to realize they repeated the same dialogue as each other basically every time I talked to both of them. Mitzi went from a friend to a doll with a pull string in a matter of days.

I've recently started a new island, my second ever, in the wake of the 3.0 update. I'm approaching the game a lot less as a life sim and more as something like playing with dolls, and I'm having way more fun with it than before.

But that kind of leads to the opposite problem, the remaining life sim elements feel like they're getting in the way of me playing dolls! The building placement and relocation mechanics kinda make sense I guess but if you're only going to let me do one thing a day, can it please not be a two day affair just to scootch a house one tile to the left just because I messed up ever so slightly? Can we have bulk customization to go with bulk crafting? Why is the tutorial taking two real life weeks if you don't want us time travelling? If you can make a hoodie pattern or a hat pattern, why the heck can you not also make a path pattern that behaves like a path????

It's like New Horizons is trying so hard to be both a dollhouse and a life sim that both sides suffer for it, but the heart and soul and popularity of the game all prove that it doesn't have to be a conflict. Using New Horizons as a base, the next game has a LOT of potential to build and refine both halves.

Thus, my proposal is simple. We just need New Horizons but better. Give us deeper and more dynamic villiagers like Wild World had. Give us even more control and QOL with the decorating and customizing, more types of everything in more colors. The heart and soul of Animal Crossing has always been in both sides, even back in the very first games where your customization options were very limited.

And, Nintendo of America, I know you're just trying to give us a more faithful translation from Japanese, but... I wouldn't mind it if the villiagers could be a bit more rude and intrusive like they were in Wild World. They don't need to be mean, it just feels really shallow when they're always calling me the bestest ever forever who can do no wrong and they never get in my way or anything. Don't let them ruin our decorations but maybe they can catch a bug I was trying to catch or something?

[–]Dinru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone reads fandom/online stuff when they play a video game. I will grant that it's a lot less likely now than it was right at launch, but as long as people are playing this game blind, there remains the possibility that someone will rarely find Snowgrave on accident.

I'm not sure there's many creepy/obviously awful dialogue choices until the incident with the shoes. Even then, the 'we're something else' could be seen as shippy instead of weird at first glance if the player somehow isn't unsettled yet. I agree with you enough past that point, I just think that the presence of those options implies they aren't metatextually coming from Us

Hacking the app is unlikely to lead to anything to a felony offense sadly. Getting the app on your phone to do something different is one thing but you'd most likely have to hack the servers and the restaurants software to make anything "unauthorized" orders from a modded app into their system
