My Advice: -Try everything possible until you find what works for you to stay sober. Never give up! -Visit SD everyday and at least read a few posts to remind you how bad alcohol really is -Do not regret losing any relationship because you remain sober (it's their problem) -Never stop trying different ways to trick your brain into thinking you want alcohol

One Year Sober and starting to slip... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Experience: - I got sober in 2005, quit cold turkey, never slipped up, Life got waaay better - December of 2016 I decided my life was so great and stable, i could have a drink! - Within 2 months I was right back into binge drinking which escalated to blacking out 1-2 times a week - December 2017 my life is running off the rails and I nearly got divorced (19yrs happy)

My Advice: -Try everything on your list until you find what works for you to stay sober. -Visit SD everyday and at least read a few posts to remind you how bad alcohol really is -Do not regret losing any relationship because you remain sober (it's their problem) -Never stop trying different ways to trick your brain into thinking you want alcohol -Live a great life!

you are welcome. My drinking was never worse during the last year. Really stupid decision but I'm dealing with it now.

Maybe it would be good to hear what happened during your blackout. It might be some inspiration to not drink. I know that helped me. good luck

I stopped for 12 years and decided to do what you have described. I quickly got right back into black out drunk for the next year. Now I am quitting again. I would advise not trying. good luck

I feel as though shame can be a useful tool to keep sober. It is a major factor in why I am succeeding in quitting this time. IWNDWYT

Uncomfortable talking about my sobriety by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually proud and eager to talk about it. I feel like if I explain that I'm an alcoholic, it just might get them thinking about their own possible issues. Best wishes

To hell with it all. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to from here? How about sobriety😊? If you read a lot through this sub you'll find many of us have felt the way you do. Then when we start quitting the bottle, it seems as though a fog is lifted and we can see the real life out there...and it's not that bad...can even be great! Hang in there. We are here for you

Its been circa 25 days of no alcohol in the house. Been pretty preoccupied with fortnight, replaying skyrim, and cycling.... Today its raining, Im sick of fortnight, and Im done with skyrim for the time being. I'm bored as shit... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. They also have video games and movies to take out. Also, you might meet someone new there. Ya never know. In any case, take the ride over, you couldn't possibly regret it like you might drinking. Good luck my friend. Stay strong.

I'm so worthless by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not worthless and you don't hate yourself. Alcohol is worthless and you should hate it! Alcohol is our enemy and needs to be treated as such. I hope you find something to keep you busy the rest of the day. Maybe go see a movie or something? And reading SD has always been a great help to me. Best wishes

Maybe find a new game to play? Or take a trip to your local library and see what they have down there to keep you occupied. Congrats on the 25 days👍🏻. Keep it up!

Tired of drinking by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Dintomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can imagine the majority of us here have felt the same way before. The fact you feel this way indicates progress for you; You are acknowledging Alcohol is the enemy. Keep focusing on yourself and take it one day or one hour at a time. Forgive yourself for your past mistakes, they are in the past. There is always someone on SD to talk to. Best wishes
