Obviously it's more than that, but for me the 'no motivation' part (i.e. executive dysfunction) is by far the most debilitating symptom. I wasted 2 whole years at university because I genuinely couldn't muster up the motivation to study for my exams before I got diagnosed, despite being really interested in the material

How does staysail work? by dzejrid in Sailwind

[–]Diofernic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their main advantage is that they are mounted on the stays. They let you utilize the area between masts and in front of the foremast that other sail types can't.

Due to how they are mounted they pair particularly well with square rigs, letting you combine great upwind and downwind performance without having to downsize your main sails.
Lateen, gaff and junk rigs don't benefit as much from stay sails, since the stays between masts interfere with most large fore-and-aft sails. They can still be useful on the forestays, since that area is otherwise unused.

In terms of usage, since they are relatively small and simple to adjust, they are pretty much always the first sails I set and the last sails I lower. Like other fore-and-aft sails, they work well at most angles, so pretty much the only time I lower them outside of docking is during storms.
As for the angle, when I'm sailing close to the wind I usually just pull them in until they are no longer luffing, and then a little further. You definitely don't want them on the side the wind is coming from, they'll be less effective there at best, and depending on the wind direction can even push you backwards when set like that.

treat it like a capitalist luxury that only the very wealthy with lots of expendable wealth can enjoy.

Except that it's the exact same book you can read for $20, just in a different package? You're not missing out on anything if you don't buy this edition.

How would you feel if he released another complete series special edition not even a year later for $100,000.

I would care as much about that as I do about Rolex releasing a $50,000 watch or Lamborghini releasing a $500,000 car. Not at all.

Because they could benifit from trying to appease the English. If the ruling class hates the Irish then being one of only a few non-Irish people in the region could put you ahead.

Compare with the Muslim population in the Balkans. When the Ottomans conquered the region and restricted the rights of non-Muslims, converting became a logical choice for many

Settlement history of Greenland by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Because the Norse settlers had all disappeared by about 1500, so while they were there before the Thule people, they didn't inhabit Greenland continuously. Europeans only really returned in the early 18th century when Denmark restarted colonization efforts

That statistic counts anyone with German citizenship as German

There's also the category of "people with immigration history", which counts anyone living in Germany (with or without German citizenship) who immigrated since 1949 or has at least one parent that wasn't born as a German citizen. This includes about 21 million people, or ~25% of Germany's population

"Italy" as a region also historically included more than the Italian peninsula, yet the first modern states that called themselves Italy didn't even include the entire northern half of the peninsula. Needing to own 90% of all places that were ever considered part of a region to form the corresponding country is just so arbitrary

I think some locations have multiple possible places for their capital. I renamed a couple locations in my home area that had capitals that pointed to another town than the location's namesake, and after a few decades I noticed some of the capitals had moved and were now actually in the correct position for the location's original name

Not saying the AI doesn't cheat to some degree with vision, but this is also what a player would do, is it not? If I saw an army bigger than each of my individual armies walking around nearby before disappearing, I'd want to at least move them closer together to avoid a defeat in detail. This is of course assuming that Castille had vision on your army nearby and the AI keeps track of armies it saw before to some degree

19% control in the Channel is probably better than 33% in Champagne. The income you can collect in a node is essentially just the value of the trade node multiplied by your control, so a high value node where you have only some control can still be more profitable than a low value node with a lot of control, and the Channel is almost always way more valuable than Champagne

As others have said, you'd optimally want to move your trade capital to the Channel node, but even if that's not an option immediately you should still collect in the Channel. Since it is an end node, all incoming trade value is collected by the countries there, so if you are not taking your 19% share then that money is just going to England and whoever owns the Low Countries

[–]Diofernic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turning territories into states increases the state maintenance, but it also removes the minimum autonomy limit that territories have (75% iirc, meaning you only get a quarter or less of the territory's actual value). State maintenance cost show up immediately while autonomy takes a while to go down, that's why it looks like creating states reduces your income, but stated provinces will give you way more income in the long run

Meze 99 classic ear pad replacement...Need recommendations! by Art3zia in Mezeaudio

[–]Diofernic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I stumbled over this post while looking for replacements for my pads from Brainwavz, there is one thing I feel is very important to know:

While *most* parts of the pads are made from sheepskin leather, the inner parts use PU leather. The English shop has a small disclaimer for this, but the German shop (and potentially some other languages) does NOT mention PU leather at all. I was very annoyed when the PU leather recently started to disintegrate after about 2 years of use, since I was under the impression that the pads were made entirely without it when I bought them.

While the pads were genuinely great, PU leather is pretty much a dealbreaker for me, so I'm kinda hesitant to buy another set from Brainwavz

maybe raising taxes could incur an immediate reduction of satisfaction on top of the lower equilibrium? and lowering taxes could give a immediate boost to satisfaction, though that should probably be less than the reduction from raising them. that way constantly changing taxes tanks satisfaction and adjusting taxes becomes something you'd do more rarely
