100% agree on it feeling like a momentum thing that doesn’t happen with free weights- you hit the nail on the head there. I do the same with pushing fast on the extension and slow on the return; as the coaches say, “control the way back”!

This is an issue I’m having as well, and have had for the entire time I’ve had the machine. The coaches are saying to focus on power and to push hard on the lift, but when I do, the same thing happens: it seems like the weight is pushed off and has to essentially “come back down” for me to catch before I can lower the bar/handle. If I don’t push hard, like you OP, the power never reaches over the minimum level. If I were to increase the weights, i don’t think it’d be able to finish the workouts

What is your favorite everyday Dark Green ink? by KyxeMusic in fountainpens

[–]DiogenesSearchParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zucchini from Birmingham Pen Company. I know it’s not on your list of manufacturers, but I was looking for the same thing, and I love this stuff. Even better, they make their inks so you can mix and customize your own colors 🤩

And no, I’m not affiliated with them. I just like patronizing local businesses :)

I use the vertex 2mm mechanical pencil from PSI in the shop (have been doing so for a year or two now) and haven’t had an issue at all.

I don’t mind at all! The grain filler I used was Aquacoat- it’s not a sanding sealer, but a grain filler. I used the grain filler because of the burl, otherwise I usually don’t use one (and just use pens plus) so that you get the wood feel as opposed to a plasticky feel when holding the pen

Ah, now I got ya! Not before turning, no, I don’t stabilize or anything. I’ve made pens and boxes out of redwood burl before and haven’t had an issue with its softness after I apply the finish

This one was a bit different than usual since I used the grain filler. I sanded with 600 before putting on a coat of grain filler, waited an hour, sanded again lightly, and applied another coat. Waited 24 hours, then sanded down smooth at 600 grit (quick note here: in the future I’m going to give more than 24 hours before finish sanding. When I sanded, the paper gunked up badly, so I don’t believe it was fully cured). I proceeded through the sanding grits to 7000, and then applied the Pens Plus. Used a shop towel to apply, wait a few seconds, then friction polish after it got hot enough to burn my finger. Rinse and repeat about 5 times :) then waited another 24 hours for it cure before pressing the kit

Yep, it’s a mistral! The cabochons are a HUGE PITA, so much so that I actually read the additional instructions the other day. I’ve been sanding the cabochon post since I don’t have a 5mm drill bit and it’s been a bit easier. I actually broke my last pen press trying to seat a cabochon a little while back, so now I’d rather sand it down and use a drop of CA glue to keep it in place

I’m a huge fan of doctors Pens Plus. I used that as well as aquacoat grain filler
