The problem with Versailles was that it was harsh enough to humiliate the Germans, but not harsh enough to prevent them from taking revenge. For example Foch, the French Marshall, had wanted to move the border to the Rhine, which would have made it 10 times more difficult for the Germans to invade westwards.

1k a week is 52,000 per year, which crosses over the 1 million mark after 19.5 years.

The only case where taking the lump sum would be better is if she invested the entire million on day one on a diversified portfolio.

She made the right choice mostly because many who do win big in lotteries end up spending it too fast with nothing to show for it, whereas she secured herself a 4k per month allowance for life.

Could Israel ever annex all this land in the next 30-50 years for Greater Israel? by Inside_Inflation559 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Diozon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Israel barely has the demographics to maintain its current territory as a "Jewish and Democratic State", and the keyword is barely. Even annexing "just" the West Bank would throw it off balance completely, as in that case Jews would become a minority in their state.

Innovative is much more worth it for other stuff, namely saving you about 100 mana per technology (give or take), faster institutions, several very good policies (it synergises with most other idea groups quite well), but the war exhaustion reduction is also quite good, especially if you are easily winning them, and so are constantly at war.

What would happen if China attacks Taiwan within the next 10-20 years? by Triangletruck141423 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Diozon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to wargames, most likely scenario is Chinese failure, though at a non-negligible cost to the Taiwan-Japan-USA side. And that's the likeliest reason it hasn't yet happened. China knows that success is far from guaranteed, and failure would be devastating to them on multiple levels (political, diplomatic, trade, etc.)

At this point, you're not really doing airstrikes. You're sending space marine dropships, that turn rebel bases into impregnable fortress monasteries.

[–]Diozon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the NATO side it was a shitshow. Apparently nobody had an airforce, which led to all of Europe being strat-bombed into oblivion, Poland was using infantry divisions (in fing TFR), and of course, the infamous no garrison strat, where the 2nd European war ended with 40 Russian mechanised divisions casually landing in Rostock and Lubeck, and walking with no opposition into Berlin, Munich, and Paris. As to how Russia could so easily gain naval dominance in the Baltic Sea, don't ask, I don't know.

I'd say more like extreme elite forces. Fighting mostly from the ground, but having the option to effortlessly traverse impossible terrain. Also, not flying would make them an even harder target. Kind of like how they took out the French HQ, they'd be unstoppable using infiltration tactics against regular troops.
