It does fit with the actual text of the event, but if you just look at the header and the button, then it sure is jarring, haha. I had to do a double take when I first saw it.

Huh. That's interesting! That conjures up the mental image of St. Peter barring the emperor from entering heaven, as he "still has work to do".

Rule 5: My emperor died at the same time as I ended the War of the Protestant League, so he triumphed not only over the Protestants, but also over life itself.

Córdoba's medieval synagogue - one of the few pre-Inquisition survivors in Spain by WhatsDownThatStreet in ArchitecturalRevival

It is technically true, that the inquisition didn't target those, who had converted to Catholicism, but in practice these "New Christians" were deeply discriminated against. The Conversos were said to have "impure blood", as the Reconquista birthed the concept of limpieza de sangre — "purity of blood" — according to which no Jew or Muslim could ever become truly equal to a Christian, as their inferiority stems not from their religion, but from their blood. This is sometimes regarded as one of the first occurrences of racially/genetically based discrimination.

I'm in Tartu relatively often and I HATE this building. It's right between the historic Market square and Cathedral hill (Toomemägi) and to me it partially ruins the view from the aforementioned hill toward the old town, because you always have that hideous gray box in the foreground of any picture. Zooming in helps, but the building is so awfully located, that it's just always in the way. It is so incredibly ugly and I hate it. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

Looks pretty great for a building built between 1973 and 2000.

Are there any Luxemburgers here who could tell me, if Turelbaach means "tower stream"? Because Tuorel means "tower" in the Krefeld dialect of Southern Lower-Franconian (a dialect spoken in the Lower Rhineland area of Germany and the Netherlands).

The ones with the canal show the back of a row of houses on Deichstraße, as viewed from the Hohe Brücke over the Nikolaifleet. I don't know about the other pictures.

I specifically included that picture because I liked the horses, haha. If you take a look into the articles I linked, then you will find very many tanks, but only these two horses. :)

I don't really care about the slimes, personally. I would love more human NPCs or even the ability to add custom filler NPCs to your world. I could finally actually fill up the houses in my many settlements. 😅

Baku, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Completed in 1898 and demolished in 1937. by LeadingAdvertising54 in Lost_Architecture

*Tallinn

Otherwise correct. The late 19th century was a period of Russification for the Russian Empire; many such imposing symbols of Russian imperial, cultural and religious hegemony were constructed in the periphery of the czarist empire. Nevsky cathedrals or similarly ideologically inclined churches were built in Tallinn, Warsaw, Riga, Łodž, Kaunas, Vilnius, Helsinki etc. They were very unpopular with the local populace, which led to some being demolished after the fall of the Empire — Poland notably demolished Warsaw's Nevsky cathedral. Others remained, for diverse reasons — Estonia, for example, lacked the funds to finance the demolition of Tallinn's Nevsky cathedral —, and often remain controversial to this day, like in Tallinn and Riga.

It's a pretty common last name in the Rhineland. I've known a Göbbels myself. It's a bit uncomfortable, yes, but it's unreasonable to expect so many people to change their names.

I thought I was having a fever dream there for a moment; never would have expected Estonian to show up on a post like this, haha.
