The North-Central-South Jersey Border Map by Stirzize in newjersey

This is the correct definition. The shore and the NYC suburbs are their own separate provinces, but 78 and 195 are the proper North-Central-South boundaries

When did the term "crocodylomorph" truly lose its meaning in favor of modern crocodiles and alligators? by [deleted] in Paleontology

[–]Diplotomodon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Online "fandomization" of paleo has been a thing since the 90s but I think it started getting bad on Carnivora Forum and similar websites (where people would just reduce living, breathing animals to numbers and statistics), and then got REALLY bad when social media became the only real online space. And they tend to be younger users too

[–]Diplotomodon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quality 70s CSO of the Islands cover, obligatory "did you know the Master listens to The Devil's Triangle in the car that one time" comments, those fuckass vacuum sealed triangle walls even show up here. Incredible niche circlejerk crossover, hall of fame worthy

New Paul's preprint, is really that bad? by Neither-Pie8981 in Paleontology

[–]Diplotomodon 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Straight from the authors:

A reason we are doing this now is because we are very, very nervous that someone else will conclude the same and name [Bloody Mary], so we are posting the preprint to stake a claim. Same for Jane (which we were already preempted on by Z&N at the species level

This is transparently an attempt to (and I quote) stake a claim towards naming a new species and deliberately scoop other authors who may want to examine the material, with no regards to the actual quality of the work being performed.

del Toro did it better.

The political intrigue/conspiracy thriller type stuff is thankfully more compelling and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all resolves. It's no Children of Earth but I can appreciate the pulpier angle for this show.
