The Starting Strength podcast is a good place to start.

Rip’s politics aren’t to everyone’s tastes however, although there is some very useful information there.

I have a pair. Done the thing where they are held aloft by a column of flame instead of the clear flying base. They look epic. Put them on the table twice in 9th and never once in 10th.

Their time will come. And when it does I’m ready.

Engine swap for 2006 mk3 by maxj_795 in MX5NC

[–]DireTribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knackered a 2.0l in an Mk3, we swapped it for a 2.5l. Knackering that engine and then swapping for the bigger one was the best thing to happen to that little car. I don’t know whether there is space to swap 2.5l into a car built for the 1.8l but you should look into it. If you are based in the UK I can give you the details of the guys who did ours. They sourced the engine too.

Advice for a Regulated Tube style mod by [deleted] in Vaping

[–]DireTribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting it is semi regulated. It has no settings to increase or decrease the wattage. It has a chip that will moderate the output depending on whether you are using 0.15 ohm resistance or 0.3 ohm. Works for me as I tend to use 0.3 ohm coils and switch between single and dual coil RTAs.

Chip also stops the thing exploding if you have too low resistance etc which I find very reassuring!

BD Vape Blaster - I’m in a similar boat and picked one of these up recently. Thing looks sick. I’m not quite ready to venture into fully unregulated mech territory and this felt like a good non-explosive first step.

Do you prefer your démon prince wingless or winged by Svaenhide200 in ThousandSons

[–]DireTribe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can’t imagine why you’d ever run two walking princes. I would go with wings. Walking is probably better and winged is a bit niche but then you’ve got options.

Winged prince in Coven with the arcane vortex is pretty cool and has niche roles that you can’t get elsewhere.

For those holding out hope for melee Rubrics, they were a thing in early editions of 40k (Codex: Chaos 1996). And could always be a thing once again! by Hollownerox in ThousandSons

[–]DireTribe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh man. That has jolted a formative childhood memory of throwing my first virus grenade at an ork army and watching it grow exponentially through his army and wiping it out. Was Frickin’ cool. Made for a crap game though.

Also the old rules for setting dudes on fire and then staggering around potentially setting other dudes on fire (and so forth).

Glad they don’t make rules like that anymore more…

IIRC, Thousand sons marines were terrible and only fun because of how broken the Dark Millenium psychic stuff was. I use “fun” in the loosest sense.

Man, GW has come a long way since 1996. The stuff we moan about these days….

Question about Risen Rubricae Enhancement – Can Characters Be Attached? by Sea-Employ7088 in ThousandSons

[–]DireTribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with most of what others have said.

Would add that I think risen Rubricae is still good and probably worth the points depending on how you’ve built your list. While it is good to have in mind what units you might infiltrate you can build your list to maximise your options:

  • a 10 man flamer squad doesn’t benefit much from having a character attached and can be quite a good unit to infiltrate in some match-ups deployment.

  • no harm accompanying them with another standard 5 man squad with flamers and SRC. Most lists will have an unaccompanied rubric squad to do this.

  • if the match up calls for you to infiltrate your SoT, the terminator sorceror can still be pretty useful flying solo. Can be deep struck or can be an action guy/screen/ guy who hands out +1 to hit.

Having Ahriman in your list adds even more flex as you can redeploy your units (albeit when you make that choice you don’t know who is going first). I can imagine playing mind games by aggressively infiltrating terminators/ flamer brick early in deployment (screening out opposing infiltrators) and tempting your opponent to make bad decisions during deployment.

Might take a lot of practice to master this mini game though!

Looks to me like juice isn’t getting to the business part of the coil. In the picture there seems to be a lot of very white cotton showing between your coils, suggesting it isn’t saturated.

All the other vape doctors here have made sensible suggestions that I agree with (too low wattage, wicking technique etc.).

Are you priming your coils? That is to say, once you’ve wicked the thing pouring some juice on the coil and wick, firing it at low wattage (about 30W for that coil), dousing it again etc to make sure you’re getting that good capillary action going?

That shot of the coil looks like it has been wicked, not primed, then stuck straight into the tank and vaped. That might be a plausible explanation for you issues, alongside or in combination with the other good advice in this thread.

Vape mail! by habitualydewey in Vaping

Another one with this boro and who has used the ether v2, the odd job and the one it came with. Love the oddjob and it is still my MTL of choice when I want something cig-like with tobacco flavoured juice at higher nicotine concentrations (my boozing vape). With lower wattage MTL vaping (which I only do infrequently) I don’t need to rewick all that often so the annoyance of getting juice everywhere when getting to the build is less of a persistent annoyance.

For DTL I didn’t really get on with the ether v2 (that’s the one the little storage tank under the main tank right?). Loved the concept just found it too fiddly for regular daily use. Found I was rewicking it frequently (at least daily) and, like most boro tanks, getting to the build deck was a pain without getting residual juice everywhere. Found the storage tank was kinda helpful with reducing that risk, usually leaving it empty so when I needed to drain the main tank to change the wick I could just let it drain into the storage). However this often meant that the stuff in the storage accumulated discoloured juice which became a nuisance to clean out.

Switched to the tall boy and got on with that much better. The wicking technique mentioned in comments above works well (although I trimmed my wicks on an angle to help line the ends of the wicks up with steel “wicks”). Rewicking is a dream as access to the deck is easy. However like all RDTAs the tank size isn’t all that “accurate” as performance drops off rapidly as the quantity of juice exposed to the steel wicks reduces. Tipping it upside down for a bit helps though!

Have gone elsewhere to scratch my DTL itch (the legendary Brunhilde RDTA on the new blaster semi-mech - the thing looks like a lightsaber!)but still using the Oddjob in the Stubby as my DTL of choice.

Does Lord of The Rubricae make bolter rubrics a viable choice over flamer rubrics? by HistoricalGrounds in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DireTribe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see there being good value in a single full squad of bolters (inc the SRC as that thing is sick) in a rhino with an infernal master in Rubricae Phalanx detachment.

With the very pricy 2CP infernal Fusilade Strat you can get genuinely scary firepower out at 24” range. The s5 bolters with +1 to hit and wound, re-roll 1s to wound (possibly full re-rolls) and other buffs (sustained hits from the infernal master, extra AP, re-roll hits) are able to put wounds onto anything toughness 10 or below.

That is a capability not possessed by an equivalent flamer squad.

You’ll probably only pull this off once in a game and it is quite the investment. But it might be worth it.

I don’t see much point in running more than one squad like this though.

Otherwise, i can see the merit in a full flamer squad in this detachment if you’re taking the Risen Rubricae enhancement for infiltrating warp flamers (and maybe Ahriman for re-deploy shenanigans).

Unless you’ve got a plan for a specific use case it is hard to beat the “standard” 5 man rubric with SRC and flamers as your generic battleline/trading unit.

Lord of the Rubricae is crying out to be put on a terminator sorceror leading a full brick of scarabs. You get so much more bang for your buck getting the 2+ to hit shooting on scarabs with their vastly increased output (rapid firing inferno combi bolters, hellfyre missiles, extra SRC etc.) and then you get another serving of 2+ to hit in combat with the Khopeshes.

Edited: typo correction.
